It might end next Tuesday at this rate, but it's sure been fun so far.

Just like last night I’m going to bed and will miss the end. So it goes.

What do we think of Counsell switching out pitchers after one batter?

Stupid.

Was sarcasm.  Capital letters matter.

I've got 3 hours of time zones on most of the board, which helps sometimes.

So, does Joe West get a crack at the Boston postgame buffet, or does he merely get a pat on the head from MLB and ESPN and told what a good buttboy he is?

I don’t think it was the right call but looked like Betts would have made the catch to me. Can’t feel to bad for the Astros as that’s the chance they took building the stadium with a wall that low. And their pitching has collapsed. No Sale in Game 5. Price. So they have a chance to get back in it.

But if it looked like Betts would have made the catch, then what is the right call ?

My understanding is that it’s only interference if the fans reach over the wall. If the ball is in the stands it’s up for grabs. It was close and hard to tell on the angles shown. Unlike the call in Yankee stadium years ago when the fan clearly reached over. They missed that one. No replays then.

Thanks - that's an interesting point.  From the pictures I've seen, it doesn't look like Betts arm & glove crossed the plane of the outfield wall.

if I were an Astros fan and they do not win the series, then this would be a call I'd remember for years.  I would have loved it if that camera they had right at the fence had not been blocked just when they needed it.  I smell conspiracy!  More seriously, you have a math Ph.D. to figure out vectors and the like to figure out whether Mookie was over the wall when his arm and glove were pushed.  The guy in grey next to the guy in orange also had his hand on Mookie's arm.  Were they all reaching over the field?  Who knows?  From the replays, I tend to doubt it.

In fairness to Joe West, he's the only one who had any sort of angle that could judge the wall. His angle was 45 degrees, but it gave him some depth perception.  He's a jerk, but is he rated as inaccurate in the field? By the way, West also (correctly) called I think a Bellhorn homer in Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS that bounced back on the field off a fan at the left field wall in Yankee Stadium.

Meanwhile, you have to listen to Joe Castiglione's call of the Benintendi catch to end the game.  He literally falls off his chair during the middle of the call.

It's really close, but what really matters is whether any of the fans who interfered with him crossed the wall in the other direction.  At least one dude - the douchey looking guy in the collared shirt - definitely did, as his hand is on the stop of the wall and he's leaning out past that hand's plane, but he didn't touch Betts.  It's really about what Orange Shirt Guy did.  He's in the first row and leaning forward while extending his arms, which tends to suggest to me his hands are at least even with the wall.  It's also worth noting that Betts' body isn't in contact with the wall, so it's hard to tell exactly where he is in space.

I can see a reasonable call either way here, but come on - how many other teams get that call on the road against the reigning World Series champions?

Read this article and looked at the replay again a couple times. Despite what the fans say it seems clear to me that Betts glove hit the one fan’s hand and closed. Now where exactly his glove is and where the fans hand was are not so clear. Seems like it was probably right above the wall.

All this proves to me is that this stupid-ass rule needs to be changed.  A fan should not have carte blanche to go for a ball if a player has anything close to a play on that ball, no matter whether it's over the fence or not.  Some dickhead fan who wants to be a hero should not get to freak up what could be a spectacular defensive play.

Yeah, the one thing that's quite clear is that Orange Shirt Guy's hand closed Betts' glove.  He might even have touched the ball directly.

If it really was interference, why wasn't the fan ejected from the park? Also, those seats shouldn't be that close.
