The announcers have an effect on how the team does?

Sure, why not? It's the announcer jinx.

diamondbacks would be better off giving up the grand slam than the walk here :stir:

Pitcher  fielding error still better than walking in a run.

amounts to the same thing and only nets 1 run instead of a guaranteed 4

Why are we saying throwing a strike = guaranteed home run? That’s like the absolute worst case scenario out of many scenarios. Throw a bunch of balls and that’s the guaranteed run.

My whole point was that if you’re going to lose, it’s better to go out fighting rather than whimpering and just handing it over.   Not sure why it’s a controversial position.

no one said that,

it's the hypothetical that was brought up the other day where the pitch was hit for a home run, some people said that the grand slam was better than the walk

it's as stupid as saying that when you're down by 6 runs and you have the bases loaded you're better off with a single or a walk because a grand slam kills the rally :hysterical:

a walk could also be the result of bad umpiring

I get it that you don't want a pitcher who is nibbling or is all over the place except for the strike zone but I'm not buying that the grand slam at least shows that you're going down fighting

seriously, if you think I literally meant “please, I’d prefer to lose by a larger margin”  then I just don’t know how much more plainly I can put it. Winning > being beaten because the other guy played better or even just got lucky > being beaten because you couldn’t execute the basics

I never said you preferred that scenario but you're the one that said that giving up a grand slam would've been better than what actually happened and since you have complained about other posters exaggerating the team's early struggles

and BTW, we have people here who have said they prefer to lose by wider margins than 1 run

Can we agree that you have to challenge the batter and make him beat you in that situation yesterday?

I think the problem we had was more the guy on the mound than the mindset...he simply couldn't execute...

I won't disagree with either of those points.
