John Feinstein appears to be a real jerk.
« Topic Start: April 22, 2018, 03:50:54 PM »
As if it needs to be said, but here it is. It’s not the content, which I don’t know whether I agree with, but the timing and tone.

He's salty because his Islanders failed to make the playoffs again.

Who brought up Harvey and Strasburg? Is the Strasburg shutdown still eating Feinstein because the Mets mis-handled their young pitchers? Or allowed Harvey, Wheeler, and Syndegaard to ignore common sense?

And, gee, what does Feinstein have to say about baseball that anyone else should care about?

I didn't read it and I'm not going to. I don't need to read it to know he's a jerk.  Really though, his main problem is he's not intelligent.

Yes. He’s a jerk.

Yeah, I can't stand him, but he's right on the issue of the shutdown.

Quote
Davey Johnson was asked whether the Nats would have beaten the Cardinals in the NLDS had Strasburg been available.

“Probably,” the manager said.

I hear him talk about Rizzo in loathing terms.
My take is he hates anyone who does not kiss his arse

Since this is WNFF, shouldn't that read: "an jerk."

Since this is WNFF, shouldn't that read: "We have openings."

Since this is WNFF, shouldn't we discuss if Feinstein believes that Martinez should be fired or not?

Wow, just looking at the comment section of that Tweet - he sounds like an angry manchild.  It's amazing how many douchebag sports writers there are.

After reading this post, I went back and read some of JF's other stuff.    Why would ya even have a twitter account and expose your a** to the world like that?       I guess that's the nature of the beast (twitter).

He's a good writer.  Not a good person.  The sports junkies like him.

I have enjoyed reading some of his books but   ....   we've all had our "moments" but he seems to stay there.    Bob Knight always spoke highly of him  :couch:  and Knight knows about "moments".

Where nobody knows your name is my favorite recent baseball book and I generall like Feinstein, but he can’t let the shutdown go and it colors everything he says about the nats

Do they like him or do they have him on to provide a bunch of hot takes for them to react to?

Davey Johnson said they probably win if they didn't do the shut down, seems like the definitive opinion to me.

How anybody can still question the Stras shutdown years later given he's still pitching at a high level (and Harvey ain't, by comparison) is beyond me. And to say that the Nats would have won the 2012 NLDS or gone further with Stras is pure hypothetical speculation.

And, yeah, Feinstein is a real a-hole. I've met him in person and he's even worse in real life.

So is Feinstein just like Slateman - just trying to stir things up and create more media frenzy ?

Would Stras have ended up like Harvey if he had been worked hard in 2012?  Would Harvey be like Stras today if they hadn't worked him hard in 2015?  Who knows on either count, but a fact that cannot be denied is that the guy who took Stras's place for the one start he would have made in the playoffs won the game.  Not pitching Strasburg cost that Nats zero in the playoffs.

Some people like to argue over stuff that happened half a decade ago.  I prefer to argue over current events.
