Bee swarm @ RFK Sun.5/20
« Topic Start: May 22, 2007, 02:11:45 PM »
Anyone else in the 400s behind homeplate affected by this horrible prank? Just before the 7th inning stretch some jackass released hundreds of bees. People were running to get out of their seats to safety. Thank God my wife was getting a drink because she is allergic. We had to move to another section for the rest of the game and last I saw security and MPD were questioning a group of Orioles fans and escorting them out.Anyone have anymore info?

Are you serious?!?!?

A lot of us were there during that game and had previously discussed the swarm of bees that seemed to have come out of nowhere during the game.  I would never have imagined that ANYONE would stoop that low, that's just reprehensible!  >:(

Kimnat and other members of the forum discussed changing seats because of the swarm of bees.  Who would have thought of something like that?

Bitter Orioles losers.

That was a PRANK???  That was freaky?  I was there w/ hubby and 3 young kids.  We moved down to the 300's and got a bunch of flack from one of the ushers.  She looked at our ticket and told us, no you can 't sit here.  You're seats are upstairs.  I told her that we were getting swarmed by bees and she still insisted that we couldn't.  Man, I was pissed like you cannot believe!  We finally got an usher to let us sit down there.  But those bees were awful.  I don't know what Andrew's (my son) reaction would be to gettting stung.  He had cancer back in the fall and we don't know how the chemo may have affected his body's response to that.  I know that if he gets chicken pox it's extremely serious, and the chemo alters your body's immunity, etc.  So that usher is on my "don't come near me" list.

By the way, I see this is your first post here.  Welcome to the board!  Enjoy your stay!

How in the world could they get the things into the park?  Wouldn't security catch it?

Wait, you can't bring in a soda, but you can bring in a can of bees?? WTF?

BTW, I'm also curious what kind of bees these were, because if they were honey bees, the population has been in decline nationally due to a parasite that infiltrates the hives and destroys the bee larvae. This is actually affecting some crops due to the decrease in pollination.

We were in the R, H, & B tuckshop behind 3rd, and you could see a large swarm swirling about 100-150 feet above home plate and moving gradually up and back...it was really quite a sight.  The way the sun was catching them, it was very obvious to anyone looking up from the lower deck...kind of alarming, actually.  Lasted a couple of minutes.

Not all that reassuring to think what someone really intent on creating mayhem could sneak into the stadium, given how easy it was for some Towson knucklehead could sneak in...a beehive?!?

IF that is what occurred, then the Stadium security people have a HUGE problem on their hands.  In this age where we all freak over unattended bagpacks and stuff, this is not comforting when you think about what could be snuck into the games.  I just can't believe that someone could really accomplish this!

Unbelievable. We in the 100s, behind 3rd base, could see a swarm of something, but we thought it was just gnats, mosquitoes, or some other kind of insect. It's not unusual to see such swarms pass through, but it usually happens much later in the season, like July or August.

That's appalling that someone could take that many bees into a stadium. The prank could have caused injury from people fleeing, or even death, if someone allergic had been stung.

I hope the culprit is prosecuted. There should be no tolerance for endangering people that way in a public venue.

or we could reciprocate by releasing a large carnivorous fish that can walk on land and breathe air somewhere in Orioles country...say, Crofton?  Oh, wait...

Like I said, the FO seems to not have a clue right now.  But since I brought it up to a high ups attention, we'll see what BEEcomes of it.  I'm wondering if it's possible that the O's fans mentioned were being questioned & removed about something else.  I just cannot fathom how someone could accomplish this!

IF this is accurate, then the person(s) should be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible!

Is there a news report or something official on this? I am just looking for a link that shows that some police report was taken or that anyone knows that this went on.

I looked online and didn't find anything.  So, I don't think it's official.

I'm on it-but does this mean I would have to walk and breathe at the same time? : /

This is the time of year that bees swarm (May).

It can happen in the city, too. There's lots of grass outside RFK. They move together in a swarm around the queen looking for a new place...
