Wouldn’t he just need to be on the 40 man? I’m sure he will be on that anyway unless he’s still on the DL, in which case it won’t matter.
not even that.  Just in the system by 8/31. I don't think the CBA changed this. For the playoffs, he can replace a guy on the DL at the end of the season.

Postseason Eligibility
Definition
Per Major League Baseball's collective bargaining agreement, players must meet certain criteria in order to be eligible for postseason play.

Players must be on the 40-man roster, the 60-day disabled list or the bereavement/family medical emergency list as of midnight ET on Aug. 31 to be eligible for their respective clubs' postseason rosters. Consequently, players that are acquired via September trades or signed as free agents in September are ineligible for postseason play.

Clubs can petition the Commissioner's Office to add any player that was not on the 40-man roster as of Aug. 31 -- provided the player was in the organization on Aug. 31 and is replacing a player who has spent at least 60 days on the 60-day disabled list. The Royals were able to use this tactic to add Brandon Finnegan to their roster during the 2014 postseason, despite the fact that Finnegan was not on the 40-man roster as of Aug. 31.

Additionally, all players who have served part of a suspension for performance-enhancing drugs in a given season are ineligible for postseason play that year.

We clearly lost Viet Nam.  Afghanistan, I'm not sure anyone's clear who won.

yes, it's a petition process, but it is done all the time.

Still fighting. Our friend's son just returned from a tour in Afghanistan. Painfully long war. Frankie was a little boy when my son joined the Army National Guard in '02.

The problem with Afghanistan (and Iraq, Syria, Nijer, and all the hundred odd places our Special Forces are operating) is that all of these are fights against ideas. You can't defeat an ideology with bullets. You just give it more grist for the mill.

A friend of mine who is a Viet Nam vet recently visited Hanoi and noticed that Subway, McDonalds, Starbucks etc. all had shops there. "Maybe we didn't lose the war after all," he said.

My Dad spent four years there as a pilot. He went back a few months ago and was amazed at the transformation and how incredibly prosperous it had become.

Watched Murphy yesterday from seats a little beyond the Nats dugout and second row from the rail. Before game, Murphy did sprints while a trainer watched and talked after each run. When Difo replaced him, Murphy seemed to be limping to the dugout. Not a big limp, but you could see it if you looked carefully.

Would not be surprised if Murphy goes on DL.

He wasn’t, though. 5 hits, 3 unearned runs, no earned runs, 7k 0BB, 82 pitches and 55 for strikes.  5 hits and your defense implodes isn’t getting lit up.

Ok, I missed the unearned runs part of that equation. I stand corrected.

Zimm due back Friday. Going to be interesting to see the corresponding move.  He hit a home run in his first AB with Harrisburg.

Reynolds or Goodwin? Hmmmmmmmh. Reynolds does something for me while Goodwin is meh but carrying 3 first basemen is a bit much.

No one who gets 10 RBI's in one game should ever be sent down.

Goodwin is the obvious answer. He's the 5th OFer on a team with four good ones and at least two other players who can play LF.

Also, I feel like Goodwin needs to get some everyday playing time. He kind of got screwed by coming off the DL and immediately becoming a bench player.

It was a really bad time for Goodwin to get hurt. If he doesn't get hurt Soto never comes up, Goodwin gets plenty of playing time.
