How many of these 2018 DL threads do we need?

Looks like one of the mods split off the 2017 thread.

I believe this is the first official DL move of the season: Joe Ross to the 60-day, to clear a roster space for Benoit. They are penciling Ross in for an August return from last year's TJ surgery.

reminds me of the time during the White Album sessions when Ringo was out for a few days because he had blisters on his fingers.

Zuck provided some updates today:

- Murphy hitting off a tee and doing light toss, team still thinks he can be ready for OD

- Eaton should get some game action soon

Zimmerman out again today

They are really going to load up on the minor leaguers these next few games. Minor league camp starts next week so a lot of those guys will be leaving and the veterans will be playing every day. Not sure if Zim's absences are health-related or just because there are a ton of guys who can play 1B, they are all chomping at the bit for their turn, and he doesn't like Spring Training. Time will tell, I suppose.

Murphy and MAT both taking batting practice today. This is Murphy’s first BP of the spring.  :woop:

So is Howie going to get the lion's share of the starts until Murph comes back?

What's the deal with Eaton? Why's it taking so long? I know he tore his ACL but that was, what, late April/early May? It's been 10 months. ACL injuries don't normally take that long.

Rizzo said he is doing fine and ahead of Murphy.  Rizzo expects Murphy to be ready for opening day.

He has apparently been playing in the minor leaguer games, along with Zim, and Gio pitched there yesterday as well.  Martinez keeps saying the minor league games are “more controllable” which I guess means more conducive to players taking their time or working on one specific thing or something like that.

There is no chance Murphy is ready for Opening Day.  If we see him before May, I will be very surprised.

Nah, he started doing BP on Friday. I think he makes Opening day if not 1st or 2nd week.

also, I think you can back-date a DL stint as long as a player hasn't played in a game for which you charge admission.  Teams will play guys with injuries in minor league games until they are confident they will not need to back date the DL stint.  For example, if they think Zimmerman has a decent chance to not be ready by opening day (say, 30%), then it makes sense for him to get in his conditioning games in the minors.  A guy like Zimmerman or Murphy probably only need a week to get ready against major leaguers.

If Murphy misses a couple weeks to start the season, or even Eaton for that matter, to get back to full health, I don't have an issue with that.

Build for 162 games and 11 more wins after that.
