Olympics - Pyeongchang, not Pyongyang
« Topic Start: February 08, 2018, 02:25:01 PM »
Thought I'd kick it off by noting that the men's hockey team has 3 Yale All-Americans at forward - Mark Arcabello '10, Brock Little '11, and Brian O'Neill '12.  All are playing in Europe now.  I think Arcabello played for 4 teams in the NHL back in 2015.  I still think the 2011 team with Little, O'Neill, Kenny Agostino, and Andrew Miller was better than the 2013 National Champions.

Omelettes anyone?

Norway's Olympic team meant to order 1,500 eggs. Because of a translation error, they got 15,000 - CNN

those Norwegian - Korean dictionaries need some updating.

Actually, I think I read someplace that Korean, Finnish, and Hungarian are closely related languages.

For who? The Israeli ice dancing team had a woman from New Jersey and a Ukrainian man how now lives in New Jersey. We told her that playing for the team you want to is like making the travel team in soccer and that you have to try hard, but not everyone can do it. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still play which is why the girl skates for Israel instead of the us

Ah ok, I missed where they said where they were from but yea that’s pretty standard, to perform under one country’s flag even though you live somewhere else.

I can understand Kenyans who live and train elsewhere, but when you have people who have never been somewhere representing you, that’s getting absurd

No. Each seat has some sort of monitor that is lit up for effect and on TV it overrides the person sitting at the seat.

You can hear some cheers when certain teams enter the arena. I'm sure you will hear the crowd roar when the unified Korean team makes their entrance.

I mean, Irsael has that whole Jewish homeland thing.  I doubt we're going to see someone named Bjergsen who spent their whole life in Duluth representing Norway.

Got that right...more likely to represent Denmark...since Bjergsen is a Danish name...  :P

There's an American guy playing on the Korean men's hockey team. Not sure if his last name is Kim?
