I may have posted this before, but back in the early '80's when Billy was saying that god was going to take him home if he didn't raise $7MM or $8MM, the owner of the Seminole Dog Track in Sanford, FL, told Graham he'd donate $5MM himself if he'd cut out all the nonsense about god taking him home...

Patti may remember that as well...she was local there for sometime...

I never got the appeal, he just seemed like a slicker version of your typical, run of the mill televangelist scam artist.  Why would all those Presidents kiss up to him, did he deliver a huge block of votes or something in return for the publicity?  Guess I just answered my own question.

I watched a bunch of MASH episodes today before I heard this news. Really sad. I believe MASH is the best TV series ever created. And the show was made much, much better when Stiers joined. A big upgrade over Frank Burns. He was such a talented actor.

Agreed. His storyline in the final episode was brutal.

I thought the show went downhill the last couple years. I like the Frank Burns and Henry Blake era best.

Except for Wayne Rodgers...he was just a straight man for Hawkeye and a useless character.  Mike Whatshisname as B. J. Honeycutt was much better.

I thought Potter was far superior to Henry Blake. He was a much more developed character. Blake was a buffoon. Same for BJ (Mike Farrell) vs Trapper. Just a much more multidimensional character. After Frank left they even made Margaret a much better character.
It’s interesting that both Wayne Rogers and MacLean Stevenson both left because they expected to be on par with Alda, but they both ended up being his straight men.
I also felt like the earlier seasons were too closely tied to the movie. I though the series was much better when they went on their own.

But I also can see how some folks don’t want all the character development and preachiness in a half hour sitcom.

What a big deal that was.

We all knew people in the service like the characters in M.A.S.H.   :)

It got too schmaltzy for me. I prefer buffoonery.

Yeah. I totally get that. I preferred the schmaltz, but totally can see how people would prefer buffoonery. And the bright line of switch to schmaltz was when they killed Henry Blake b

Alan Alda:  “David Ogden Stiers. I remember how you skateboarded to work every day down busy LA streets. How, once you glided into Stage 9, you were Winchester to your core. How gentle you were, how kind, except when devising the most vicious practical jokes. We love you, David. Goodbye.”

I liked MASH alot, but it wasn't as good as "All In The Family".

I believe MASH is the best TV series ever created.
