Usually 35 and above is OK. I've payed at 18 on a sunny windless day with supplies. I joke about it but I really enjoy the walking around. BTW The WM announcers are sayin' only 20,000 folks on 16. Keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeriste I got that many voices in my head when I play.
When you top the ball like I do you it can get a lot more distance on the fairways. Which reminds me of a story.
Cousin John and I were playing Twin Lakes, and there's a long hole with North Twin Lake on the right most of the way. The green is fairly elevated, with a long gentle slope down to the lake, maybe 25-30 yards down.
John hits a ball that landed just right of the green. We walk up there and are looking all over the place for the ball. The ground is very frozen. After a couple of minutes I looked out on the lake, and about 2/3 of the way across on the frozen ice were probably a hundred balls. I pointed that out to John while suggesting that perhaps his had befallen a similar fate, and he dismissed my comment with contempt. But, after some time we agreed he should just drop maybe 15 feet from the green where we expected it to be. He did so, and the ball began, slowly at first but gathering momentum as time passed, to descend towards the pond. He gave chase but it was too late - the ball reached the pond and, like it was propelled, shot across the wide lake to the other side where it came to a rest among the other hundred balls out there.
He only then conceded that perhaps my theory held merit.
