Mets to activate David Wright on the 29th to play one game at 3b. He’s expected to retire afterwards

Update: if I'm reading this correctly, by retiring Wright forgoes the final two years of his contract. If he had simply been placed on the physically unable to perform list he'd still get paid.

According to Wilpon he is going on the physically unable to perform list. The Mets would then keep paying him but they get 75% reimbursement from insurance.

Oh. So since it’s an insurance claim they’d need a verifiable medical reason instead of just “he’s lost it”.

Marlins are barely going to crack 800,000 total attendance for the season, if at all.

For reference, the Nats are well over 2 million and even absolute bottom of the barrel teams get about 1.5 mill.

I thought he had spinal stenosis? If he does, that would definitely be a verifiable medical reason.

Addison Russell has been placed on administrative leave following a detailed description of domestic abuse, written by his ex wife. Questions of abuse first surfaced a year or two ago when his ex wife's friend alleged on Instagram that Russel had been abusive to his ex while they were still married, but Melissa Reidy (the former Mrs Russell) declined to cooperate with the MLB investigation. Jeff Banister was good and a good guy. Definitely not his fault the team is rebuilding.

I know a lot of players hate playing for Showalter, but he got things done with that incredible bullpen 5 or 6 years ago.

How about the Brewers picking up Yelich and Cain late last offseason? I have always liked Yelich and I'm not surprised he is an MVP, but Cain has also been great. Those two moves definitely worked out.

Caught some Vegas talk radio yesterday. They were just blasting Dave Roberts for his handling of the pitching staff. Said he was a nice guy but needed to go.

Maybe the Nats can trade Martinez for him?

Christian Yelich is 1 HR from the NL lead (Carpenter) and 3 RBI off the NL lead (Baez) after his 2 run homer in the 3rd inning tonight. He leads the NL in Batting average by 12 points.
He has a game and a half to win the Triple Crown.
