It's kind of remarkable how quickly the AL has sorted itself out. Right now, it looks like the two wild cards will come from the AL East and AL West, and the best team in the AL Central has a 4+ game lead on its closest division rival. W/r/t to wild cards, Detroit and Minnesota are 8 and 9 games back of the second wild card, Seattle. 3 teams are 3.5 - 5.5 back (Angels, Rays, and As). Yankees lead the Rays by 8 games. Big surprise for me is that the Mariners are making a real run at the Astros. In terms of trade targets, you would think that 5 -9 teams are in the sell mode. 5 teams look like toast (Toronto, Baltimore, Texas, KC, and Chicago), Detroit and Minnesota are fringy contenders in the Central, and you also have to think that tight-budget teams like the Rays and As will look hard at prudent offers. You already saw the Span / Colome deal, which was both Seattle "going for it" and the Rays looking hard at their roster.
