Damn.

The Halifax waterfront is...well...really waterfront now.  This is essentially right outside of our hotel...

Eh, if it's gonna winter, might as well do it right.  Though I will be happy to see the @$&^%*@ salt go away.

You're vastly underestimating the capabilities of drivers. Also,  the people whose opinion actually  matters to government leaders  buy a new car every three years anyway

The local drivers have zero capabilities. When the snowfalls I assume that everyone is letting their toddlers drive. This may be my midwestern snobbery, but I don’t think so. The first rush hour snowfall after I moved here was like a scene out of Mad Max. Cars strewn about the road and people playing bumper cars.

Ali - it's very icy here in OBX.  But this afternoon, someone was amused by my 15mph while driving.  They pulled up next to me at a light and offered me a joint.

oh, I don't think so.  Road chemicals have their uses, but overdoing it beyond what is need to actually get rid of the icing and leaving piles on the sidewalks and streets serves no purpose other than to promote potholes, destroy bridges, kill fish, and crud up people's lungs.

I saw plenty of stupid drivers when I was in central New York, snow tires and sand by the ton makes a difference. There’s no reason for a place that gets a couple of storms a year to invest in the kind of equipment needed to deal with harsh winters

We are a city overrun with refugees from around the country, including midwesterners.  The roads are so clogged that on a perfect morning if a rabbit runs across the road you can get a 5 mile backup.  What happens in adverse conditions?   Welcome to DC!

Figurin' if you're from north of the Ohio, you're good.    If you're from NC, SC, etc., you need a passport.    In the east, I'd use the Rappahannock.
