I was thinking somebody either under a very team-friendly contract or still under team control.  I doubt with Doo and Madson that we spend the money on a multi-year deal for a top bullpen arm on the market.  I suspect we'll add some budget guys and hope for some luck lke with Albers, hope Glover returns to form, and then explore further at the deadline as needed.
If Ted really wants to do this thing, he'll go get Davis and bring back Albers and/or Kintzler. This is the year to disregard the luxury tax.

Really like to see Tillman looked at. he is a guy who has gone 200 innings a couple of times and was great ptiching in the smalloarks of the AL East, had a terrible year. Can be had cheap, and probably has a bounce back year in the NL.

Supposedly if they offer and he declines they have to pay him 500K.
If the Nationals exercise the option and he declines, the Nationals have to pay him?  But if they don't exercise the option they don't?  That doesn't make sense.

It's a buyout. They're pretty common.

The buyouts keep the teams honest (at least in theory). They can't dangle a ridiculous option year amount in front of a player to trigger him into signing a cheap initial year if you have some sort of money cost to not retaining him. I am not sure i'm explaining that right, though.

The Mets had an $8.5 million option on Cabrera, which they are exercising, but had they opted not to, their buyout would have been $2 million.

The Mets picking up that option is among the most Metsiest things ever, btw, considering that Cabrera asked to be traded in the middle of the season when he found himself shifted to 2b rather than his usual shortstop.

Albers and Kintzler make me nervous.  Albers sort of came out of nowehere last year.  Kintlzler doesn't miss bats at all.  And they're both in their mid-30s.  I would give them 1 year deals for reasonable amounts, but if another team wants to overpay...I wouldn't get in a bidding war.

Pretty sure the team only pays the buyout if they decline the option. If the player is the one that declines a mutual option, they don't get any buyout.

Well, no, Alberts didn't come out of nowhere, but since he'd been toiling on bad teams, and last year was bad, he was just under the radar. Since 2012, he'd been very good except for 2016. Kintzler's been solid for several years now, too. I'm not saying sign to 4/60 deals but for next year, I'd be fine with both of them for a year. Maybe even two.

You need another backup MI.  Duda would be a good addition though in the Lind 1B/LF LHB off the bench role.

Kelley will be here next year as he is in the last year of his contract. I also like Cole as a middle innings reliever who can give you 3-4 quality innings. I really don't like Lynn and Gio as our # 3 in the play-offs and don't tell me Ross could fit in. Also, Robles should  be in AAA to start the season.

I understand buyout. It would make sense if the Nats DECLINED the option that they might owe him the buyout. What we seem to be saying is that if the Nate EXERCISE the option and he declines, then we owe him the buyout.  I don't understand how that makes sense.   A buyout is when Party A owes money to Party B because Party A declined the option.

Lind has 300 plate appearances last year. Who are they going to get to have his production for less than 5 million. Lucas Duda? Batted .217 last year. .242 career hitter. Of course he would cheaper because he stinks.

If Carlos Santana had played any catcher in the last couple years he would be the FA that I want. Split him with Wieters and Zim. Then after Zim moves on he is the first baseman.
Even in his heyday, he was worse defensively

Productive reliever in AAA. You should care because he probably is the next guy up in our bullpen
