I thought it was different than the manager search one since that includes other candidates. I’m happy if this one gets deleted...

I thought the manager search was going to turn into the fire of the manager thread.

Mods are slipping.

I'll wait to see how he does before demanding we FIRE him. Wait shouldn't the thread title be "Fire Davey Martinez NOW"?

However, with out first managerial experience club (Williams, Acta) we haven't done to well.  :?

Davey Martinez is the seventh manager since the Lerners took over 11 years ago, but I think that Acta is the only one they fired. Riggleman quit and everyone else had their contracts expire.

About half a year of Acta's contract would have cost the team over $200k, wouldn't want to do that again.

The Big Intern had already been extended...he was fired...

gonna let this one go on its separate way and maybe close the [insert name here] thread.  But thanks for setting up the placeholder

The don't extend thread was intended to serve as the fire thread since allowing their contracts to expire is the Lerners preferred method of making a switch.

But it doesn't say fire, so it's not accepted.

your deviation from standard format confused us.  Or, more precisely, made it require thought that we weren't willing to put into the topic yet.

What I don't get about Martinez is why did he worked for Maddon so long if he wanted to eventually be a manager? He has worked under exactly one style his entire coaching career, not ideal for learning different ways to run a ballclub.

Maybe we should compromise and just go with "Davie?"

How would he know the difference?

Can a mod consolidate some of these Martinez/manager threads? There's like three of them that all basically are about the same thing. Its getting redundant and makes the board messier.

So, you're saying the optics aren't good with so many threads?

Look. He's definitely a troll, but there is a shred of wisdom here.  Martinez has spent nearly his entire coaching career under one guy.  What if he isn't suited to managing according to Maddon's style?  I would be happier if he had been bench coach for several managers of different styles.

I tried to keep PB69's point in the title of the thread but also give a nod to our traditional format
