can't believe our resident Davey fans have ignored this story in their obsession:

https://theathletic.com/854584/2019/03/06/cleaning-up-the-mess-inside-the-nationals-clubhouse-overhaul/

Anyways, sounds like Bryce was an issue last year (maybe not intentionally, it just dominated the team's vibe) and then it snowballed into a horrible season and Davey was in over his head trying to fix it all at once.

I read that article but didn't comment because it seemed to be just a rehash of info from last year along with unwarranted optimization that Martinez has everything fixed now.

Davey says, "you know" in a radio interview:

"This guy is the dumbest human being alive and a stain on humanity. He is personally offensive to me and my family, and a disgrace."

Matt Adams, a player who played here last year, left, and came back, says this year's team is already more cohesive than last year and a different vibe than last year, offering supporting evidence to the theory that last year's issues were deeper than we expected:

"Rehashing info. Unwarranted optimism."

:lmao:

If talent is the only thing that matters then Dave doesn't matter anyway

Svrluga chimes in.

I like Svrluga but he's sounding like Boswell or Phil Woods, lecturing the fan base on how we should trust in the Nats knowing what they are doing. Like you need to be an insider to know that he's a dud and he's never going to get better. I really like that expectations are supposed to be higher now, when we aren't coming off a 97 win season.

Last year it was camels.

This year it’s cabbage.

You know what builds team chemistry? Winning.

Watching the Nats last year was a chore for me. I’ve never felt that way before. There were so many ugly moments. It was a chore for Turner to run out a bunt in Milwaukee. It was a chore for Kelley to close out a 25-1 ballgame. Then you had Bryce’s “if that guy was on our side” comments. Overall, they just played a sloppy brand of baseball.

Hopefully this year is different. This is a balanced, talented group. A nice blend of respected vets and young guys. For Davey’s sake, I hope they get off to a got start. Another .500 season won’t be tolerated.

Dry humping Sipp

I won't kill Martinez for the Robles base running blunder. The player has to react in that situation, but my God he is an awful manager.

The whole leaving Scherzer in to bat for himself in the 7th, with 2 outs, down 1, and at 93 pitches is incredible.  He let Max talk him into it.  Then, if you are going to let Max bat and have go out for 8th, let him finish the job with 2 out.  You've already blown him over 100 pitches at this point.  If you don't want to burn Adams, then let Noll or freaking Difo hit.

Miller and then Grace with Sipp sitting on his ass in the bullpen to protect the 1 run lead.  Jesus H, Davey!!!   Apparently Sipp was ready too, because Martinez ended up dry humping him in the 9th.  Please admit your mistakes and fire this man before Saturday's game.

For the record, Rosenthal was also dry humped today.

After The manager explains why he left Max in we probably still won’t have any idea of why he did it.

To me his worst managerial trait is the dry humping. In Year 2 it is just totally unacceptable.

It will be the same as last year with this idiot a's manger.
Let's protect Soto with Zimmerman.
Let's bring in Grace to face Cano.

GD the Lerners for thinking not paying for a good manager is worth it.

Martinez on why he let Max bat for himself, "I was trying to give him a chance to stay in the game and win the game.  I knew we had six out with our top guys coming up."

OMG.  My head is going to explode.  Was he watching the game?  Who is his sounding board?  Do we have a bench coach that can provide input and save him from himself?

Manage to get your team wins, not your starters.

That was the place to pinch-hit Matt Adams (assuming the Mets didn't have a LHP in the pen, I'm not sure)

Yes, and the time NOT to pinch hit Adams, is when the bases are empty and you need 2 runs, not 1 run.  If down 1, go with Adams.

If I’m not mistaken they did have a lefty in the pen when Max was coming up.

I can’t with you all. This isn’t on Dave.

If you are gonna blame Dave on anything, blame Dave for sending Trea 3 times. We had scoring opportunities because Trea hit and Dave sent Trea.

No I'm not blaming Dave for the loss but it's dereliction of his duty as our skipper to keep Max out there for over 100 pitches on the first freaking game of the year.

So you like the matchup of our starting pitcher at 93 pitches hitting against Lugo, more than Adams against their lefty? Come on Man.

How about the dry humping?  He is determined to wear out our best pitcher and our bullpen in game 1.  Same old same old.

And I am sure of the posts in the thread if Adams makes an out against a lefty that was ready to pitch to him.

The bigger issue is why burn out Max in the first game and have relievers warm up and not pitch. It’s not likely pinch hitting would have won the game.
