Should have done what I suggested months ago.  If you weren’t going to keep Dusty and you thought Martinez was the future. Drive the Brinks truck up to Jim Leyland’s house and give him a 1 year contact with the stipulation that Martinez is his bench coach and would take over in 2019. This idea looks much smarter now. But it looks like the Lerners are penny wise and pound foolish.
Would rather have Giardi

The Nats are looking at a 20 game drop in wins, granted that injuries played a part, but Martínez is every bit the disaster I thought he'd be right from that first press conference. You could tell immediately that he's not too bright, Rizzo wanted a guy who would take direction from upper management and they got their puppet. This stinks.

Yes, Dusty was the empitomy of intellectual stimulation as manager

Top 5 reasons this team stinks: 1. Bryce Harper 2. Bryce Harper 3. Bryce Harper 4. Bryce Harper 5. Dave Martinez
He is not 80 % of the problem

I'm sorry, but what can Leyland teach Martinez that Joe Maddon cant/hasnt?
Are you kidding?! Do you have any idea how excited Cards fans are to get rid of him?

Joe Maddon is overrated. He’s a below .500 playoff manager and his team one the WS in spite of his numerous mistakes.

I wouldn’t touch Matheny. He’s a joke

Hire Girardi now. This team looks "uninspired". Harper should sit.

Posted stats yesterday that showed the pitching is about the same this year. It's the hitting. Down .7 runs per game. He is a big part of it.  Maybe 50 percent.

He was a .500+ manager in Tampa,  and hes over .500 in the postseason with the Cubs.

If anything, hes underrated.

The players almost all like him. And respect him. That's a big part of the equation. You are throwing in some early exits with Tampa and a World Series shellacking by the Phillies. Look at his record the last 4 years. Two NLCS exits and a World Series Championship. So he is 5-2 in playoff series over that time. Just a wee bit better than Dusty. And they are on top again this year.

Does that mean Maddox is available?

Not yet.

Watched him yesterday as the 100MPH guy got pounded by the Reds.  He looked befuddled.  Matheny looked like he knew it was coming.  Nats team ERA this year is about same as last year.

Yeah. They haven't yet put last years lineup on the field this year. That's an interesting stat...

Really missing Adam Lind and Howie Kendrick. 2017 Zim on 1B with Lind and Kendrick on the bench beats 2018 Matt Adams on 1B with Reynolds and Difo on the bench. Obviously Bryce is a huge factor as well.  it’s  death by a thousand cuts. None of them are fatal on their own but when they’re all happening at once, you die.  Soto makes up for some of it at the plate but gives up extra outs in the field and even if he were playing Gold Glove defense, there are still so many holes in the offense. Even Rendon had a banner year last year and has regressed (if you can fairly call it that) to his career norm, which is still a really solid player but also 20 BA points below last year.

Why do we want him? He couldn't fix the pen the last two years. Roark's ERA doubled under his tenure. His current pen is a crap show.

Where is the indication that we want him?      ;)

I’m done with the #FireMartinez movement. It’s a waste of time. I’m going to support him and this team until they are mathematically eliminated. Or until they lose Friday. Seriously, 48-48 isn’t the end of the world. Hit the reset button and show up ready to eat face vs the Braves. There’s no reason this team can’t go 42-24 over the final 66.

These ad hominem attacks are obnoxious.

What I find obnoxious is someone who feels the need to be a judge and inject themselves in a one on one discussion that doesn't have anything to do with them.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion but clearly some people just don't know what they are talking about. Maybe it's me that doesn't know what I'm talking about but if I see someone acting like an authority and say something that is way out there I will comment.
My comment history on the net had been limited to commenting on news articles posted on MASN, WAPO etc. but out of boredom I found this site a couple months ago while recovering from minor surgery. I took a couple days reading and reviewing posts and thought that although this site has some real good intelligent people posting here it also had some real aholes. Against my better judgment I registered and have since been attacked by 6 different people on here so far and can say that all 6 were people that I identified while reviewing the posts.
I'm sure if everyone made a list of likely suspects the same people would be on all of the lists.

As I’ve been saying all year, Martinez has been mismanaging the pitching staff. Seems like people on the team agree with me.  That being said, it sounds like he’s learning. Good reporting by Chelsea Janes.

I think a lot of that is the normal learning curve any (most) managers have to go through. It's also one reason why I didn't want a rookie manager for a team with the expectations this one had. I like his willingness to recieve feedback and adapt as he gets more experience.

Just read it. Sounds like everyone likes Dave. That’s good, looking for a big second half from our Nats.

Actually, it is. Because that's what we've got.
