It's like when a doctor says a patient is in "stable" condition.  It can mean a lot of things, but my mind always drifts to the most stable medical condition in which a person can exist.

IMHO a "stable" medical condition means you ain't in a doctor's care.    :)

I have a friend who is a fitness and good food nut.  I told him that my goal in life was to outlive him by one day...

Be nice about that saying things like that.   I used to work with a guy who was in pretty good shape (I could still outrun him over 6 miles, etc.), had a full head of hair (:old:), etc.    He used to jab at me about looking younger than me.    I told him, "You're still gonna die before me."     He did.

In school I had a doc who berated me when I said a patient was stable. He had told me if the heart rate was zero yesterday and zero today, the patient would be “stable” but dead. Dressed me down in front of the whole group. He was an unmitigated ass, but I never used the word again unless I was referring to horses.

Believe me...with just a 24 hour tolerance...I ain't wishin' him any ill will...  ;)

Yeah, but the good news is if you outlive him by 24 hours or 24 years, he won't know.    That'll be your secret.    :)

This offseason is really tough on MLB Trade Rumors and the other sites. They just keep regurgitating the same stories with no real tumors to feed on.

Quoted for posterity.  Mmm, tumors. Maybe with fava beans and a nice chianti.

Tumors are the ones who feed on the rumors.

Is it me (mindfact) or is that a lot of money for a guy who hasn't done much?

Cubs were bent on staying below the luxury tax threshold. Suffice to say, a fairly meh crop of free agents and a bad CBA make this the most boring and possibly worst off-season in decades.

This makes me hope that the Arrieta to the Nats rumors are untrue even more. The Cubs could have resigned him for that kind of money. What do they know that made them have no interest in him?

At least that'll get him into the Nats' facility.

Tucker is the ask. I just don't think you're going to get him without giving up a major piece

Realmuto is a very good catcher, but he isn't elite. He is greatly valued by his defense, his bat is just a bit over league average. Granted that good two way catchers are hard to find in the MLB right now, but I feel that any deal for Realmuto is going to be some sort of overpay.

What is the league average bat for a catcher?
