if we get Ozuna that likely means flipping Taylor for a pitcher.

I'm leaning towards this as well, although I doubt we acquire Ozuna because since when are the deals we actually make reported as rumors prior?  I think the Marlins would be much more interested in younger prospects than a 27 year old like MAT.  MAT is the same age as Ozuna and both are in their arbitration years.  What do the Marlins gain unless they take MAT AND a big-time prospect?  MAT would just be a throw in to fill a spot in their lineup and not at all the center piece for the Marlins in a deal.  Why would we include MAT if that isn't moving the needle for the Marlins anyway?  So...we'd be giving the Marlins the prospect haul they desire, then flipping MAT for pitching.

I think the Marlins are more likely to trade Yelich than Ozuna not matter what they are putting out there. They get rid of salary and will get more in prospects.

I think he meant trading MAT to another team.

I bet they trade everyone and start the fish statue at first base.

They will draw the same crowds. And I use crowds loosely.

I know, which is why I said I'm, leaning to this as well and explained why.  Stateman is who said MAT may go to Miami.

Keep in mind, the Cubs made Arrieta a QO. Under new CBA, because Nats crossed Competitive Balance Tax mark last year, would have to surrender 2nd- and 5th-highest draft picks as well as $1 million in international bonus money to sign him. That's a whole lot.

That's a lot...but he's a Boras guy.

We will bend over backwards to give him a deal.

yeah, that's not happening.

Rosenthal reports that the Orioles are making Machado available and want two controllable young pitchers in return, and that Machado wants to play SS.

What about Danny Duffy for Juan Soto?

What about Danny Duffy for Juan Soto?

Duffy is a pitcher who couldn't sustain his velocity gains after transitioning from the bullpen and wasn't as effective in 2017.  He did mix his secondary pitches more and still maintained a similar swinging strike ratio.  Duffy is due $14MM in 2018, $15.25MM in 2019-20, and $15.5MM in 2021.  I'm not entirely sold on his track record as a starter when you're talking about committing that much money long-term.  Especially when giving up a top prospect like Soto.  If you take him, it's more a salary dump by the Royals for little prospect return.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Orioles want "two young, controllable starting pitchers" back in a trade for Manny Machado.

The Orioles don't expect to re-sign Machado, so they appear willing to seriously consider offers from interested teams. No word on which team might have the advantage in trade talks, but the Cardinals have been mentioned as a possibility. One interesting side note from Rosenthal is that Machado wants to move to shortstop for his final year before free agency.

Rotoworld.com

If the O's are willing to deal Machado because they won't sign him to a monster deal you'd think we would consider shopping Harper.

-Harper for prospects
-Trade for Osuna
-Sign Arrieta and Rendon for what we will give Harper.

LF- Osuna
CF- Taylor
RF- Eaton

With Robles ready in a year. I'd be all over that.

Everyone losing their minds in December but I’ll take Rendon, Harper, Murphy, Zimmerman over Gregorius, Stanton, Judge, Sanchez any day. You can pitch to the big boys #Nats tougher outs

But why on earth would you sign Arrieta if you were attempting to compete in 2019? He's a barely average pitcher who will likely be grossly overpaid.

The only thing bigger than the hole between Judge's front teeth is the hole in his swing. Woof.

FP is the ultimate homer

Sanchez/Stanton/Judge/Gregorious OBP: .345/.376/.422/.318

Harper/Murphy/Zimmerman/Rendon OBP: .413/.384/.358/.403

So who’s harder to get out?

they added Stanton to a team that made the ALCS. Meanwhile, as the Cardinals, Giants, Dodgers, and Cubs can all attest, the Nats are pretty to get out

He just listed those four guys. And said our 4 guys are tougher outs. The data agree with him.

Arrieta is looking for a $200M deal. Machado is insisting on playing SS this year, to max his FA potential next year.

Why would any team trading for Machado, expecting him to be a free agent the following season, care where he wants to play?

They may not care, but plenty of teams want a shortstop.
