What about Solis?
my bad.  Solis in place of Glover at the start of the year.  Cole is out of options, as is Romero.  Glover has an option, but if he's healthy he makes the team.  Grace? if they are all out of options, then Cole may move on.

Replace both Solis and Glover. Solis was consistently bad this year, and Glover has been adequate in only a few games.

lol. Both are good relievers who can help you win games with several more years of control. Solis was actually good most of the second half once he got healthy. The better course would be to get and keep them healthy and then have two quality relievers in your pen.

Glover looked good when healthy. Why get rid of him now?

Trade for a #3 and sign Wade Davis

Agreed. This team would have to be completely dismantled to even make the division competitive. We had an awful bullpen most of the year, dealt with injuries to Scherzer and Strasburg, and ran out of outfielders but still got to 97 wins.

Not to mention long stretches without Harper and Turner. Taylor too.

Major steps are strong #3 starter, some middle inning bullpen help, and rebuilding the bench.  Gio and Roark very high end 4th and 5th starters.  But we need a reliable #3 for playoffs and as regular season depth behind Scherzer and Strasburg.

So, are we all assuming that CF now belongs to Taylor?

Won't garner much in trade. His value is greatest in CF. It's his for a couple years at least, until we decide what to do without Harper.

I think that is a very safe assumption. Unless we trade him (unlikely) or he gets hurt.

Or change the future of this team and sign Ohtani and Maitan  :)

It's hard not to.  The Lerners are pretty cheap, and you're not going to find a better player for cheap than what Taylor did this season.  It's highly debatable as to whether he'd keep up an .805 OPS for another season, but anything close to what he did last year is more than adequate.  The defense is legitimate, and he's improved enough at the plate to earn the shot.  I mean, I've been mumbling for 2 or 3 years that if Taylor could only hit .250 or so, he'd be a legit player - well, he hit .270 with 19 homers in ~400 at bats.  He won't do that well again, but he's more than adequate, especially if Robles kills AA again - in which case he'll be in the majors before the season ends.

Or, in stat geek parlance: 3.1/2.6 WAR in 432 PA, .216 ISO but .363 BABIP.  1.1/1.1 DWAR isn't going anywhere, so even a significant regression on offense leaves a 2 WAR player.  That's liveable, especially when there are alternatives (Goodwin, then Robles).

I don’t think it’s a given he gets worse. He seems to have figured it out, especially at the end. And coming through in the postseason certainly will give him confidence.
I think his floor is 2.0 WAR, but I think his ceiling is a 4-5 win player.
But the worst thing for his performance would be not making him the opening day starter.

It's not a given, but it's more likely than not.  A .363 BABIP is very high and he's still swinging at too many pitches out of the strike zone.  Basically all that changed this year is that he hit more in the air - which is great, as he has a lot of power - but also something that pitchers might adjust to.  It looked to me like they already were - he was getting a lot fewer fastballs near the end of the year and a lot more down and away, irrespective of that tomahawk off Hendricks.

I like it.  Push doo and Madson back to the set up roles.  It would be an upgrade over Albers :mg:  But bring back Albers and use the kids as the 5-8 guys in the pen.  Solis / Romero, maybe Grace, Glover if healthy & Cole.

One thing that may allow you to commit to Taylor in CF is that you have Goodwin, a lefty and a natural

<------------------

for him if his BABIP does regress to mortal ranges. He  can be Thor and Goodwin can be Loki, the talented guy of questionable reliability.

Catcher - I'd look into the trade market and free agency for an upgrade here, but I don't think that is going to be easy.  Might just be stuck hoping Wieters has a better year at the dish to offset being mediocre defensively.  I suspect Severino if simply promoted to the backup rather than signing a vet to be #2.

Zimmerman, Murphy, Turner, and Rendon obviously return across the infield.

Eaton starts in LF, MAT in CF, and Harper in RF.  Goodwin is the 4th OF to start the year.  Robles is certainly potentially a factor at some point.

Bench: Difo as a "super sub," Goodwin as the 4th OF, and Severino as the backup C seem to be the only guys to pencil in right now.  Hopefully Rizzo can find another couple vet bargains on 1-year deals the way he did Drew 2 seasons ago and Lind last season.

I tend to think Gio is a "sell high" candidate coming off the year he had.  He barely throws 90 now and I think his ability to strand baserunners was as much luck as anything.  He seems so fragile mentally, and I think he rode the good luck of stranding runners all season and would see just the opposite if he got off to a rough start in 2018.  Keeping him in the last year of his deal as a #3/#4 guy isn't horrible, but I would be interested in bringing in another top-line SP and unloading Gio for help elsewhere.

I think the bullpen could be very solid.  We'll see if Albers returns and stays to his 2017 form, but Doo and Madson in the back-end and hopefully a hopefully healthy Glover, combined with improvemens from talented arms like Romero and Solis could be an excellent start.  I'd love to add another closer-type arm to compliment Doo and Madson at the back-end.

Trade Harper for Stanton.

Done

Why would the Marlins want 1 year of Harper knowing they could never sign him?  They aren't contenders.

See, I view one of these two as trade bait. Nationals can't keep three Cfer with Adam Eton under team control for 3 more seasons and needing some rotation help.

I'll  be curious if they go after Wade Davis. I'm assuming the Red Sox will pick up Kimbrel's option.

Sign Hosmer to a big deal. Start him in LF. He can move to first when Zim goes on the DL

Hosmer's OPS the past 3 years is .766.  How is adding him at a huge contract and subtracting Eaton or MAT from the OF help?

Can he ever be healthy? he's got a hip labrum problem, right?  That's a hard thing to get over.

Glover looked good when healthy. Why get rid of him now?

Assuming the suggestion is an even-up trade (including contracts) the Marlins would do it to unload that albatross of a contract.  The Nats would be crazy to take that on.

The Marlins want to get rid of the Stanton contract, yes.  But Stanton for Harper still makes no sense for them.  The Marlins still would be paying Harper big bucks this year in his final year of arbirtration and they get no long-term assets.  The only way it would make sense is if they turned around and traded Harper for prospects.

And signing Harper to 30-40 million per year wouldn't be an albatross contract?
