This. Nats won't trade Robles, and why should they? If the 2019 OF is Eaton, Taylor, Robles, what's the harm in having three guys who are good enough to play CF? Add Brian Goodwin, because someone always gets hurt, and it's a 4-CF OF.

Nats need another starting pitcher.

ESPN's point is that the Stanton move to NYY, makes it more possible for Harper to stay in Wash, thus giving us the opportunity to trade Robles for another area of need.

I’m asking this seriously, would a Robles for Posey straight up trade be good for the Nats?
Not really. He's 31 next season and still due 88 million.

If we're giving up Robles, I'd aim for someone like Schwarber

it's the ultimate 'win now' move - he'd be of tremendous benefit for the next 2-3 years when we have Stras and Scherzer at their best.

Yes, that's a trade you make today.

Okay. As long as everyone is clear that means that after Harper leaves, you basically trade away Rendon and Turner and tank for a couple years.

Why? Buster is as big of a contributor as Bryce...and a known commodity.

With his stone glove, Schwarber needs an AL home where he can DH.

Or just play him at his natural position, catcher.

I wish we had a place to play Carlos Santana. Huge fan of his consistent game.

Got MLB Network Radio on right now and they just had Davey Martinez on.  Sounds like the Nats aren't going to be major players at the winter meetings again this year.  I literally signed up for a twitter account so I could follow weeks like this and the trade deadline.

I hate this team sometimes...

Holy freaks some of you are just ... retarded.

This team was a competent manager away from going to the NLCS last season. What major change do you think you're going to get?

Furthermore, why are we taking anything the front office says at face value? Rizzo has always preferred to act quietly and away from the media.

No, I get it - I just like hearing rumors and crap and it just sucks that none of it will involve the Nats.  I just like that stuff; other than that, I have no need for Twitter.

Now you have to copy MDS? And badly, I might add. For shame, you used to be a good poster.

If you want rumors, go to r/baseball and sort by new. No need to sign yourself up for twatter.

This. Those comments make me think Rizzo might be trying to do something big.

From MLB Trade Rumors:

"•Fresh off of a non-tender by the Braves, first baseman Matt Adams has drawn interest from a few organizations, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com (via Twitter). Specifically, the Indians, Royals, and Nationals have all reached out to Adams’s representatives. While Cleveland and Kansas City could offer fairly significant roles to the left-handed hitter — who really is best utilized in a platoon capacity — the Nats unsurprisingly would consider him as a frequently used bench piece who might take some of the burden from Ryan Zimmerman."

How many of the major Nats trades/signings did the media seem to be aware of before they happened?  Seems we hear we're close to deals that never happen then the deals that do happen come out of left field (and fill left field in the case of Eaton this coming season).

It would not shock me at all if we traded for or signed a pretty big name #2/#3 type starting pitcher, or if we added righty capable of closing to add to the bullpen mix.  Obviously a catching upgrade is expected.  I anticipate we round out the bench later in the winter when you can see what bargains are left in the bin ala Adam Lind.

I'm sure Rizzo is always trying to do something big, but most of those fall through or he can't quite get the deal he wants. I'm sure, this week, at least one team will contact him about trading for Trea Turner or Anthony Rendon.

We talked about Adams being the new Adam Lind.  Glad to see Rizzo is listening.  :)  He's young enough to warrant a 2 year deal perhaps with an option.
