Why Feldman? Just start Cole and get the same performance at a fraction of the cost.

If we're getting a pitcher, we need to trade for a top of the rotation guy.

he argues that Cole would be the long guy in the bullpen, and that he and Fedde provide starting pitching depth

I disagree. Cole has been mostly a turd and I expect us to use 8-9 starters next year. Cole being our #5 rather than #6 or #7 is terrifying, because we literally have no one after him.

I don't see how we have the resources to acquire a top SP unless we're just signing someone and I don't see that, either.

Feldman is garbage.

I get depth but I'd rather use Cole and then Fedde and then go to some free agent bum.

Apparently the Rays are floating Chris Archers name. This could be a typical Rizzo move like Eaton last year. Archer is signed for the next 4 years at 34 million total which is a complete steal.

A rotation featuring Strasburg, Scherzer, Archer, Gio and Roark would immediately be the best in the league.

If I'm Rizzo I'm going all in for him and Robles would be in the deal.

Chris Archer (4 years, 34 million) and Brad Boxberger (2018- $1.6 million, 2019- Arbitration eligible)

For:

OF- Victor Robles, SP- Erik Fedde, SS- Carter Keiboom and P- Austin Voth.

We still have Soto as our OF prospect. Keiboom is blocked by Turner and Difo and we lose Fedde as our top pitching prospect but still have AJ Cole as our 6th starter with 3 starters locked up long term in Stras, Scherzer and Archer.

We offered Robles for Sale last year so I think Rizzo would offer him for Archer.

Add a few bench players and we are set.

Archer is very average. Not worth Robles, that's for sure. Nor Kieboom.

People here have been super eager to trade away Victor Robles. I am not entirely sure why...

Average pitchers have 245 strikeouts and 1.21 WHIP over the past 3 seasons? Am I missing something??

Dude is an ace who happens to be on a bad team. Put him on.a contender and he is a 15 win pitcher with 250 strikeouts.

To me, that is not average.

He's a two pitch pitcher who gives up an awful lot of home runs. I don't know if something happened when he started striking more people out a couple years ago and started giving up homers at the same time. I don't know if he can sacrifice some Ks for fewer homers or not.

Obviously he has the look of an ace on the mound, but the question is: do you feel comfortable giving up the haul that Tampa will demand to get him, when his era away from Tropicana Field this year was 4.97, and the year before was 5.44?

It's a tough pill to swallow.

He may have ace like talent, but he doesn't pitch like an ace. Back to back seasons with an ERA over 4 (Sale has never had a season with an ERA over 4). The last two seasons, his away ERA has been over 5. He's a fly ball pitcher who has two pitches. Not giving up Robles at this point for him. Two seasons ago, sure. Rather see Marcus STroman or Gerrit Cole.

I don't think my heart could take a game where Archer started and Doooooooooooo was the closer.  Poor ol Mikey Taylor would need three days off.

Lol, get them to give us Kriemeier and we'll have him, Taylor, and Bautista chase everything down.

Would anyone be willing to give Lind a multi year deal and play him in LF? We could platoon him with Difo, and then have Lind available to play first when Zim goes down?

I like Lind more than most but he isn't a left fielder. And what about Harper, Eaton and Taylor? Goodwin showed he should be getting regular at bats as well.

I'd like him back for the exact role he has last year and I would easily give him a multi - year deal. He is the ideal insurance policy for Zimm

I don't think that Lind was any worse than Werth in LF. I'm also broaching it in case Eaton isn't quite ready to go for OD

I think I would be as good as Werth in OF :)

Using him as a defensive example is not a good argument.

Raburn coming back
Kind of hard to believe he's getting another chance.
minor league deal  with a spring training invite.  No roster spot guaranteed.  This is a fine move.  They need a righty back up outfielder if they go with Goodwin as a backup and Robles in AAA.  I'm hoping he's healthy enough to try to play a little second base as well.  It's been years since he's done it, but if he can play 2d and LF and hit righty, that gives us some options to rest Eaton and Murphy vs. lefties when they are hung over.

I'd be interested, but that would happen later in the off-season, I think.  He's going to look for a starting job, and he might find one on a team looking for a lefty 1B option / DH that's up near the tax threshold and looking for a "moneyball" move to stay under it.  Maybe that is us, but we aren't looking for a starter.  I'd love to see if he'd sign a McLouth-type deal and hope for better health.

Was Rich Hill a FA when the Dodgers signed hm? Not all of those "bums" are Guthrie types.

No chance. I could see some teams doing that, but we already have bodies out there. Even if Eaton is out, Goodwin has earned the right to get a shot as the first man up. Past that, the Nats need to find Difo as many at bats as possible. And we're a Robles hot start in Syracuse away from having a massive logjam.

I am actually coming around to the idea of not aggressively trying to replace Lind and letting Murphy be the backup first baseman with Difo and Sanchez getting more time up the middle.

Fixed. Hello Giancarlo Stanton

If Stanton goes to the Dodgers I am convinced that Harper ends up there as well.
