Still gotta put a team on the field. Might let them not rush a prospect faster than they want to.
The FA market is slow as molasses. The fish could pick up a decent-but-unremarkable veteran CF on the cheap, sign them for a 2- or 3-year deal, and not rush any of their prospects, not break the bank, and quite possibly get the MLBPA off their back all at the same time. They might still consider MAT if only to turn around and flip him for prospects but now that their #1 goal of dumping money is accomplished, they're going to be focused on restocking that lousy lousy farm.
