Gutless or talentless or a bit of both?
« Topic Start: October 06, 2017, 10:57:31 PM »
I am thinking more lack of intestinal  fortitude than talent.  Either way I would rather eat what I paid on playoff tickets than sit through another night of Wrigley  Field East.
This is not much of a sports town. All the Cubs fans there  tonight was a disgrace

Clearly not talentless. In fact, this will probably go down as one of the most talented teams in the history of baseball to not win a damn thing of meaning.

We’re going to get mocked by braves fans since they at least won one series.

Umm... this is a thread started by Love Angelos.

There's a lot to be said that everyone is playing like they did in September.   The good and the bad.

As I was leaving the stadium tonight I could not help but think about Atlanta.
Anyway  this series is over. They wasted a superb  performance  by Strasburg and tomorrow Gio will be talking to himself by the second inning and Dusty will be wondering about what he will be doing next year and Zimm will be just wondering

Strasburg was brilliant.  The crowd was totally into his phenomenal evening.  But our lack of hitting was abysmal and we never stood a chance once the Cubs scored.

As for Cubs fans, there were some there -- for sure -- but not overwhelming, at least not in the 300 level between the bases.

People exaggerate the number of opposing fans at any game, especially when they are the only ones who have something to cheer about.

The cubs fans seemed to be concentrated in the 100 level on the third base side. There were quite a few there and they were loud (and obnoxious) But the rest of the stadium was almost all red.

you forgot brainless as an option.  this team had no plan of attack at the plate.  nothing.   just god awful to watch those horrible ABs...one after another.  and it's an absolute fantasy to think Werth is going to turn back the clock...and sadly they'll probably trot him out there tomorrow too.

Yep -- that's what it looked and sounded like from upstairs.  Concentrated there but only sprinkled a bit throughout the rest of the ballpark.  I'd actually say there were, as a percentage, fewer tonight than at a regular season game vs. the Cubs.

Gutless for sure.  The disparity between the way this team plays in the regular season and postseason is telling.

I'm tired of hearing about how the Nats only beat up on bad teams.  This year's club posted a winning record against playoff teams.  It's not like they won only 85 and got swept by the Cubs in the regular season.

This is a talented team that can't get it together at crunch time.

Just awful approaches at the plate.  Everybody was in pull mode all game long, on a night when it looked like the ball was not going to carry.  Tim Hudson said we had nothing between our legs, and Kyle Hendricks showed we had nothing between our ears.

This team specializes is only giving opposing fans something to cheer about.....then complains about the lack of fan enthusiasm

Gutless. Need to see a line up change tonight. Put in someone who wants to hit. Felt bad for Taylor, surrounded by bums in the line up and in the field.

It will be the same line up.Zimm who disappears in the playoffs; Jason who like all of mankind can not conquer father time; Weiters who once could hit and Murphy out on an island.

I blame that guy with the signs on a pole in front of the Centerfield  gates who hates Catholics and says everyone  is going to Hades.....presumably  except him.

At least we won't have DOUG FISTER going for us in our Game 3. Spending megabucks on starting pitching is gonna become a thing of the past (Brian Kenny is onto something). You can always find a Bauer or a Hendricks who are just a hair below the Strasburg's or Scherzer's. Or, for that matter, our own Gio who, this year, fit that definition for us.

Always wished for a more potent lineup. Sure, this year we got unexpected contributions from Zim and Taylor and Goodwin but had that not happened ...

I don't have the stats but while the Nats averaged a decent number of runs per game, how often was their offensive "eruption" basically one big inning and then a bunch of 0's for the rest of the game?

Would you rather have the Astros or Cubs or Dodgers everyday lineup or ours? If we're gonna win, our pitchers are gonna have to pitch like Stras did through the first five innings last night.

The Nats line up or bats is the worst of all the playoff teams.

When Rendon made that error  who wasn't  certain the Cubs would cash in?
Can never think that about the Nats unless maybe Murphy is up

If we can't win with strasburg at home I don't like our chances with Gio and Roark should be completely off the table.

It will be ugly this afternoon. Not much hope with a banged up Max and no bats in the line up

Start Lind at first; Kendrix in left and anyone else behind the plate and maybe we will get 3 hits instead of 2

Oh, there's hope if they can find a way to win today.  It's just tough to stomach the wasting of Stras's gem.  I wouldn't start Lind over Zim, but Kendrick should start over Werth, who is finished.
