The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, Game 1
« Topic Start: October 06, 2017, 10:45:57 PM »
Good:
Strasburg was outstanding.

Bad:
Zimmerman was pathetic.
Turner was pathetic.
Offense:  No adjustments.  We only made one out trying to hit the ball to the opposite field.  Everybody pull happy leading to weak ground balls.
Defense: Rendon, seriously with the error?  You can't do that in October.  Harper, overthrowing the cut-off man leading to the 2nd run.
Dusty - why keep 3 lefties in the bullpen if you are not going to bring one in to face Rizzo in the 8th?

Ugly:
Our "rested" line up.  I'm so glad we gave everybody so many days off over the last 2 months.  We are so fresh.
The Nats 2-7 home record in the playoffs.

It's been a while since he's looked good at the plate.  He was good defensively at least.

One run scores on Rendon's error. The 2nd run scores on Harper's throwing error (missing the cut put what's his name in scoring position), and then on misplaying a ball he should have fielded and maybe threw home.

Strasburg was outstanding? Strasburg choked.

One run scored on the single Strasburg gave up. Second run scored on the single Strasburg gave up. He gave up as many hits in that inning as Kendricks gave up all game.

He got the Loss for a reason.

The Zimmerman GIDP at bat seemed particularly bad to me. Hendricks didn't have the best control tonight and the Nationals made it easy for him.

Right. And Bryce put one of those singles in scoring position. Turned it into a double. There's the 2nd run.

One run scored on the single Strasburg gave up. Second run scored on the single Strasburg gave up.

Still gave up the hits. Cubs comitted an error and Kendricks didnt give up a run.

That's less on Kendricks than it was on the boys in white.

So Strasburg was "dominant" while Kendricks' performance is a result of the Nationals choking? This isn't even the first time he shutout a team in the playoffs for seven innings.

The bottom line is, Strasburg threw a 97 mph heater to Bryant.  Bryant still had to get a hit, and he did.  Why?  Because he altered his approach and said he was just trying to react.  I give the Cubs credit.  They came through when the moments mattered, with all runs coming with 2 outs.  Our guys don't have that in them.  We never stopped trying to pull the ball all night.  So frustrating to watch.

Rendon and Turner need to be sent to the Padres, aka baseball purgatory.  They're going to cost this team two consecutive postseasons.

I thought Tera Burner was THE SAVIOR?  Anyone expecting these guys not to choke like a freshman at a Sigma Nu train ride is a delusional homer.

Seems to me two hits is the Good, the Bad and the Ugly all wrapped  up in one unholy  trinity...if Turner can't get on base nothing much else matters

You can make the case that when a "perfect" pitcher gives up a base on an error with no outs, he simply gets the next three guys out.  Last night prove Strasburg isn't perfect.  He's pretty close though.
