This is interesting. Boone will obviously be an extension of Cashman and the front office. He's a really smart guy and well-respected by players despite never coaching. He knows NYC media and pressure.

But can he manage? It should be fascinating.

Everything I read about him made me think he would have been a great hire. Kind of wish we interviewed him in DC.

It’s kind of surprising that Dusty’s name isn’t coming up for any openings.

Not really, IMO. Yankees wanted someone who would be an extension of the front office. Other openings didn't see like great fits, and people want younger managers these days (especially ones that work hand-in-hand with the front office).

Dusty is a previous generation's manager...he's a good manager, but not really what teams want these days.

He was robbed of fame and notoriety as a player by the fact that the Red Sox won the World Series the year after his big home run, and twice more again in the next decade. Perhaps now he can build a legacy as a manager.

So in other words all the team think he really is NOT a good manager?

He is a good manager for a different generation. Like, overall he's a fine manager but in today's game he's not what teams want given how the game has changed. He can be both a good manager and not the kind of manager teams want.

HE wasn't that bad after Matt Williams.  In the right situation, he's fine.  it's just the NYY might not be the right situation.

Sure. NYY was absolutely not the spot for him. Anyone following the situation could see Cashman wanted a younger guy, valid or not.

Not surprising. He was out of baseball two years before we hired him

My god, what is with people on this board having blinders when it comes to Dusty.  The man is almost 70 and was on the wrong end of 4 consecutive early/premature playoff exits.  Get some perspective.
