Just post the won/loss records to truly settle the matter.

If only that mattered for starting pitchers

I have confidence that our pitching v. the Cubs will be good.  I have much less confidence in the offense as it seems to have fallen off the earth recently.  This team ain't going nowhere if it doesn't start scoring runs.  We scored 170 runs in April, 116 May, 161 June, 128 July, 129 August.  We have 89 so far in September (108 projected for the month).

To be fair, they have been running out AAA lineups for most of September.

Not sure if AAA lineups is quite right, but there has been lots of platooning.  For good reason - to keep players sharp (or as many as possible)

Lineup near full strength last night managed four hits.

This is the healthiest the team has been in about three months

They are just conserving energy by avoiding unnecessary base running.  Strategic thinking.

One game is definitely a significant sample size.

swinging at strikes might inadvertently lead to contact, which can risk injuries sliding. heck, we've seen Harper and others injured around the bases. Better to play it safe and just swing at unhittable pitches.

That also prevents us from clogging up the basepaths...

Then why did we jettison Ean and Espi

We're a terrific club.  It's a question of who shows up.  We certainly have the starting pitching.  Will Turner get on and steal?  Will Harper be the healthy Harper we know and love?  Will Werth come up and hit a homer just when we need one?  Will Rendon be the terrific third baseman and great clutch hitter?  Will Lind hit a few big bombers?  Will Zim be Mr. Clutch?  Will Murph get some key hits?  Will Taylor continue to hit and be Mr. Speedy?  If all the answers are yes, we're in for a great series.

Can't wait.  GO NATS!!!!!!!

Dusty and Zimmerman are a lot to overcome, if last night is any indication.

Nats looked invincible in September 2014, but then half the team didn't show up for the series against the Giants.  This year, they've been pretty average since August, so hopefully they'll do the opposite and get hot for the playoffs.

We can beat the Cubs if we just play good, clean baseball and don’t get lazy or sloppy. Which means we should knock off whatever it is that we’ve been doing this week and just play like we have something to play for. The Cubs are very beatable. We should not give them any help in their efforts to beat us, though.

Cubs gave us some pretty great bulletin board material back in June. You can bet they'll be reminded if that.
