Harper has the smallest of leads in the batting title race and needs 30 PA in seven games. Blackmon is playing right now and is 1-3 today, he briefly took the lead in his first AB, but has since dropped back again. Turner didn't play today. Harper is going to have to play the next seven games, rack up the hits, and hope to get close enough to 502 PA so he can absorb any shortage.

Harper will lose by percentage points and we'll find out next year that Blackman and Turner were juicing...

Everyone who plays for Colorado should have their #s reduced by a bit. Put Harper in Coors for 81 games a year he probably hits .400 LOL.

By that logic every team in the NL East should have their win total reduced based on weak strength of schedule.

As unfair as the Coors field advantage is, it's also super unfair to Blackmon that Harper and Turner missed substantial time.

Isn’t that what the minimum PA appearance threshold is for?

You know what would help him get 30 PAs?  Batting second, that's what.

This thread makes me salty all over again that Walt Weiß sat D.J. last year to lock up the title.

Now that the batting title is out of reach this thread will be used to track Harper's instances of flu in 2017. With the season almost over it seems unlikely that he will match his 2014 number unless the Nats go deep into October.

It ain't out of reach. Bat him second and get him up 6 or 7 times a game via offence!

Harps has the flu? Damn, I'm guessing he's like me, where sudden drastic changes in temperature can cause me to get sick(generally hot to cold but occasionally cold to hot too).

I suspect the real reason behind this bout of flu is specifically to prevent Harper from contending for the title. Probably the smart move to not have him insisting on playing every inning and going 110% in games that don't matter.

The batting title isn't quite out of reach is it?  He could still won with 495 pa

Fixed the year.

I don't think that shots cure the Nats flu, a very strange strain of the disease that comes on quick and passes just as quickly.

Seems to be very unlikely. Maybe if Blackmon and Turner have a bad week and Harper puts it in overdrive.

It does become a pattern.

Very unusual for a guy to have the "flu" this often who doesn't drink.

Yep.  Usually they muddle the message by saying "flu like symptoms".

Flu vaccines only prevent a few strains of the virus. For everything else, it simply mitigates it.
