Playoff seedings: Who can we top?

Dodgers getting a lot  closer to wrapping up top seed in the NL.  Rather than change the title of the "catch the Dodgers" thread, I figure maybe a separate tracking thread might stay relevant for a week or so.  So . . .

Yesterday, Dodgers win 4-2 over SF and wrap up NL West.  Cubs (5-4 over MIL) and Cards (4-3 over PIT) win, put Brewers in a deeper hole.  Houston wins, 3-0 over LAA, while Cleveland loses to SEA 3-1, to get to .5 games back for top AL seed.  Boston picks up a game on NYY.

There is a significant home field advantage in the WS. So I bet a fair number of people care.

Since 1986, the team with home-field advantage has won 23 of 30 World Series (.767) and has an incredible 104-63 (.623) record in World Series games. The fast start at home has contributed to a 7-1 advantage to home teams in Series sweeps. And having the last two games at home contributed to a 19-6 record (.760) for teams in the sixth and seventh games after they “got back home.”

In the World Series, home field advantage has never been based on record. It’s either been alternating or decided by the All-Star game. And those stats I quoted were only from the World Series. Being able to play under your league’s rules is a big advantage.

Another factor - the AL has won 20 more games than the NL this season.  And this pattern happens every year, where the AL does better in interleague play than the NL.  Does that mean the AL will have a better chance of winning the World Series (regardless of home field) ?
