Somehow I don't find that reassuring.

Let’s be honest. Is anything going to be reassuring to you short of him pitching 7 scoreless innings in the NLDS? 😉

We were sittin' in 202.    From there, we could see Max was steppin' gingerly.    We weren't sure what it was but he was takin' gentle steps.   Talking to the neighbor this morning.    Told him I can understand pullin' a hammy in the cool last night.   Almost happened to me walkin' down the steps from the Loft.      If we have to start Stras in game one?      Well, we'll just have to deal with it.    :)

In my opinion those two were a coin toss anyway.  Throw SS first.

Probably not, lol.  I guess I'm extra frustrated because I was pretty optimistic about this post season and it's going downhill fast.  Gio's performance today isn't helping.

Assuming the NLDS, NLCS, and WS go to the maximum, here's my starting rotation:

10/6    NLDS Game 1  Scherzer
10/7    NLDS Game 2  Strasburg
10/9    NLDS Game 3  Gio
10/10  NLDS Game 4  Roark
10/12  NLDS Game 5  Scherzer

10/14    NLCS Game 1  Strasburg
10/15    NLCS Game 2  Gio
10/17    NLCS Game 3  Scherzer
10/18    NLCS Game 4  Roark
10/19    NLCS Game 5  Strasburg
10/21    NLCS Game 6  Gio
10/22    NLCS Game 7  Scherzer

10/24    WS Game 1  Strasburg
10/25    WS Game 2  Roark
10/27    WS Game 3  Scherzer
10/28    WS Game 4  Gio
10/29    WS Game 5  Strasburg
10/31    WS Game 6  Roark
11/1      WS Game 7  Scherzer

Collector's item, well at least they got "Nationals" right. Kendrick in Left may be wishful thinking.

Does anyone still want Gio to start game 2 after yesterday? The only hope is to win games one and two. He is going to get crushed in game three.

I take your point that Gio isn't pitching well, but also, this:

I’d much rather have Max in hostile territory, plus his road ERA is like 1.36 amd his home ERA is like 3.10.

Dusty said Gio was sick and I remember at one point (maybe it was when Ollie freaked up or maybe it was when Roark freaked up) wondering if there was maybe a norovirus or a wicked hangover or bad meat or something going through the clubhouse. It was just so out of character for basically everyone except Blanton to suck all in the same game (well at least after we got Madson and Doolittle). I am really hoping Gio gets his crap together or gets it out of his system or whatever direction his crap needs to go, and holds it together for a few more starts.

This article is full of noncommittal but upbeat statements about Max Scherzer and hints that he will start Game 2. That is what everyone on Twitter seems to think too, for whatever that matters.

Given Rizzo's stance on injury information, I'm surprised the Nats aren't simply refusing to confirm or deny the existence of Max Scherzer.

Zuck reports that Strasburg threw off the mound today, Scherzer threw off flat ground and has yet to throw off a mound since his injury.  From that he speculates that Strasburg is lined up to pitch game 1.

The who starts game one decision was already sort of a coin flip. I worry about Max's leg, but I like that there is an excuse to make it a non-controversial decision.

‘I’m pitching in the NLDS’

Strasburg usually throws a bullpen two to three days before a start. Game 1 of the National League Division Series begins in two days, Friday night at Nationals Park.

scherzer says he's pitching in the nlds, and word is, he is targeting game 3

I agree that I'd prefer Max to pitch in Chicago than headcase Gio

All I can say is they better win game one.

If he only pitched one game in the NLDS, he should be more available in the NLCS, assuming we get there.   He could possibly start game 1 on regular rest instead of not being able to go until game 3 or so.    This is an interesting situation, and assuming Max is good to go, I think it could work out well.   Imagine being up 2-0, heading to Chicago with Max coming to the mound.    This season has been so wacky, it just seems like it might work out.

Scherzer pitching Game 3 means he'd be available to come out of the pen for an inning or two in Game 5 if needed.

But if he goes game 2, he and Stras could take 3 innings each game 5.

So I guess the lesson from last night is that this discussion is moot and that starting pitching is overrated?

She said he pitches two to three days before. By the time that sucker hit the news stand, she'd have been right.
