So presumably Tanner gets the Game 4 start instead of SS on short rest.
I think that depends on how the rest of the series went

Gio confirmed as Game 2 starter

https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/nationals-gio-gonzalez-will-start-game-2/

I'm goin' to the Stras game one thing.    I'll light a candle/incense next to my Gio autographed color 8 X 10 on the end table for game two.    :rites:

There is no advantage to using him in 3 instead of 4,
If I did the math right, pitching game 3 would mean he could pitch game 1 NLCS.  Pitching game 4, he could not.

Good point.  On the other hand, if we're luck enough to be up 2-0, holding off on using him in game 3 (and starting Tanner instead) provides the potential for not needing him at all in the NLDS, so that he could really rest the hammy until the NLCS.  If it's 1-1 (or, gasp, 0-2), then you definitely use him in game 3 if he's healthy enough to pitch.

He wanted Roark.

I was going to go to both games. I am considering selling game 2 tickets now and going to Michigan for the Michigan State game.

Zuckerman says AJ Cole and Adrian Sanchez are clearing out their lockers, so I guess Grace or Solis are the potential long men.

Unfortunately we have to carry one of those turds that are left over. I don't trust Solis or Grace.

At the Meet and Greet, there was some of the same feeling about Romero.    Like his stuff not sure of the trust thing.

I have no problem with Solis. He's been great the past month now that he's fully healthy. Grace hadn't had a ton of appearances lately, but he's been solid when he was had chances in September. I wouldn't have a huge issue with him in there. He'll likely be a mostly mop up guy. If it's between those two, Solis is the guy, I'd guess. I've seen worse relievers than both of these guys get outs in the postseason.

This really changes the complexion of the series. I love the idea of both max and Strasburg being ready for game 5. Start one then bring the other in if needed. Game 4 would feel like an absolute must win for the cubs even if they were up 2-1 going in.

They need to send Romero to the Pirates for a couple of weeks and have them work their Felipe Rivero Magic on him. Then send him back to us.

This may be correct, but it seems awfully premature to even think about the NLCS at this point.  Nothing should be planned now with any deference to what might or might not happen with the NLCS.

If your goal is to win the World Series, I think it would be prudent to at least pay passing attention to potential considerations for the next round.

Hoping Stras officially puts the shut down to bed by having a Bumgarner-like post-season.

Passing attention is fine and trying to align things without doing any harm to the team in the first round is fine.  Sacrificing any incremental chance to win a game in the division series because it might make things easier in the next round is dumb and rather strikingly arrogant for a team that's lost 3 division series in 3 tries.

I cannot wait till tomorrow. I love Strasburg and he has a major attitude and something to prove. He’s gonna be a frickin beast tomorrow.

If we're in a position where we're relying on Solis/Perez/Grace/Blanton to go multiple innings, we're forfeiting the game.
Probably.
