....Nook lost the game too by not going to 3rd on that swinging bunt by Belliard.

Manny Acta just called it a "mistake", but there's no doubt he knew it was costly.  He praised Simontacci for giving us 6 innings, that we absolutely HAD to have from him, because of our pitching situation.  As usual, Manny is a realist.

A winnable game that didn't go our way.  Tommorrow will be tough; it will be a big upset if we win.

Schneider sure seemed pissed in the Post-game interview.  That's what I like to see; players that give a ****.

edit: Ugh, the Nats are the only team in the division to lose tonight.  This is going to be one rough month without our best pitchers.

Just got back from the game. The team made enough mistakes and played poorly enough in spots to deserve to lose. But this was one of the worst managed games I have seen from Manny. I didn't like several of his decisions, but to me there was no excuse for Nook not to be on third with one out. As it turns out, Nook probably could have made it there on that the Belliard ground out, but I don't think it should have come to that. There are few times when I like a sac bunt, and that was one of them. There was no reason for that game not to be tied even with no hits in the bottom of the 9th. Any ball in play likely scores Nook from 3rd. I can only assume he didn't want to play to tie the game because he wanted to avoid extra innings. I really can't think of any other reason.

I still think the blame ahould be laid on Traber and Rivera.

Yep, Rivera walking Mora is inexcusable.  The next batter hit a shallow fly ball to Kearns who absolutely choked on the throw to home.  That runner should have never scored.  Then Traber came in and walked the horrible hitting Gomez on 4 pitches to face the O's best hitter in Roberts who then went on to hit the GW single.

Rivera did not pitch well at all. But I did not like the decision to have Traber come in face the right handers in that situation. He's really a lefty specialist who pitches to contact, and that was not the right situation for that at all. That was probably a better time to bring in Colome.

I just got back from the game.  I generally agree with the gripes about the relievers.

Add Kearns to my crap list.  The guy had some horrid at bats.  First inning, runners on, and he doesn't even swing at a strike with Dmitri Young on deck.  With a .230 hitter on deck, you might as well go down swinging.

Then there's that HORRID sixth-inning at bat.  Holy crap, GIDP with nobody out - that really grinds my gears.

What a frustrating game.

Nook, Kearns, and Rivera all sucked tonight...but it was a good game, and tomorrow is another day.  Nook's standing pat on 2nd was baffling, but that was but one strange aspect of an overall strange game.

Very strange indeed, on and off the field.

Did you notice when that Ryan Seacrest wannabe who runs the Nat Pack was doing the trivia contest, that all of the questions were poking fun at the O's woes? But then, mysteriously, the whole thing was cut off and play was resumed as if the plug was pulled intentionally on that bit. Something for the conspiracy theorists to chew on. :)

Yeah that was weird. They had just asked the question about that kid Jeffrey Maher and the screen suddenly went blank.

In all fairness, the Braves didn't play.
