True, but he only needs to be better than Grace or Romero.

He would be my pick as well, but if he gives free passes like that it's going to lead to trouble.

You mean an excellent rental.

+1. I had more confidence in Melancon last year closing games for us than I do with Doolittle right now.

i'm thinking De Aza makes the roster and Robles doesn't.

Well that would be an awful decision then.

Janes says Severino still under serious consideration, Robles likely to make it, especially if Goodwin isn't ready, and that Blanton and Romero would be the two under consideration for 7th reliever (not Cole or Jackson).  Both if the team goes with an 8 man bullpen.  So, 5 OF, 6 IF, 4 SP, 2 or 3 catchers, 7 or 8 relievers.

There's no reason for three catchers. Severino is not an improvement at the plate over anyone to warrant carrying three.

Janes said that it was being considered because Wieters is so slow. Severino would be a good pinch runner for him late.

the suggestion is they want someone who is fast who can run for Wieters who can then stay in and catch, rather than burn a runner and then Lobaton.  I/M/O, don't carry Lobaton, but he's Gio's caddy.  You also saw the Gio/Severino combo not work well yesterday.

I thought Wieters was the catcher that worked so well with Gio..

You don't think Gio being sick had more to do with that? Boz speculated in his chat that if they'd had someone available, Gio wouldn't have pitched. Said he looked pretty pale and under the weather after the game.

So, basically, two roster spots for Wieters?

Lind, Kendrick, & Difo are locks. You're gonna keep Severino and Lobaton just so you can pinch run for Wieters?

Dusty Baker mentioned that Gio has even lost some weight. Has he been binging on "diet pills" in preparation for the posteason?

He's caught Roark the most. 15 games this season.

then there is no need for him on the playoff roster, I think.  He still makes it, though.  Ain't gonna let no kid displace the veteraniness  of Left-On-Base-A-TON.

LOL-It sounds like the consensus on the board is that everyone would go with Serv vs Lobatan:)?

Don't underestimate the fact that Lobaton is a switch hitter.  He can swing through fastballs from both sides of the plate. Severino only does so righthanded.

Pretty sure most of the board with go with Severino over Wieters. Particularly if that money had been used on Greg Holland and David Robertson
