I don't see anything "nuts" being said other than being open to the idea of giving him a small 1-year deal as insurance next year at the back-end of the rotation.  For whatever reason, he's decent in a Nats uniform.  Nobody is advocating a contract like the Cubs gave him his 2012 season with us.

Folks should I combine threads?  Anyone care?
the chief kind of likes old vintage threads not to get revived.  If it slips beyond 5 or so pages and several months, it sort of probably has died.  Maybe lock that thread and post a link in the first post here.

I looked at him as a fresh arm to eat innings every fifth day. He's been impressive.

I expect he starts reverting and battles Grace to be the playoff long man in the pen.

He can't do it. Every attempt to make him a bullpen pitcher has failed.

I expect him to start game 2 the way things are going

EJax was my favorite pitcher when he was previously on the staff.

The 2012 NLDS backs this up.

But with a long pen I still think we need a long man. Matt Grace answers the call but he isn't a true long guy. Joe Blanton and Sammy Solis have experience as starters but are having issues this season.

Joe Ross will not be back until the end of next season, and the Nats cannot assume he'll be in tip-top form then. Fedde is not ready. Yes, a small raise and a one year contract for Jackson.

The playoffs? That's a month away.

Geez, why? Great stuff but was maddeningly inconsistent.

I think a vet to pitch 180 innings with a 4.00 or so ERA next year is what we need as a 5th starter.  Whether that's EJax or someone else.  A top-flight addition to the rotation could be explored at the deadline.  I'm fine with Max, Stras, Gio, and Roark as the 1-4 guys.  3 of those guys are pretty darn durable but you have to plan to not have Stras for stretches.  I'm ok with Cole or Fedde if he improves filling in some, but that 5th guy taking the ball regularly and giving this offense a chance is big.

Like Howie Kendrick, if he continues playing this well some team other than the Nats will give him a big payday this winter. The Nats should not be that team.
I bet the Mets wish they were that team that resign Murphy.

I think it is hilarious literally every pitcher that leaves Baltimore succeeds. I wonder if they seem any connection...doubtful.

Needs a big start tonight. If his late slide continues I'm not sure he can find anything more than a minor league contract next season.
