I think he deserves his own thread. He had been great since we signed him and has probably pitched himself into a contract for next year.

4 wins, 2 losses, 2.92 ERA,  37 IP, 33 hits, 8 walks,  29 SO, 1.108 WHIP

Surprising. Very surprising. Exactly what this team needed to get to October.

Frankly, I think we should attempt to get more former Orioles starters.

I can comfortably and happily say that, so far, I was WAY wrong about Edwin Jackson.  The peripherals actually hold up and look like this pace may be pretty sustainable for him.  I don't think he's magically morphed into an elite pitcher overnight and I do expect some regression but I completely agree that he's really put himself back on the map as a pitcher who will appeal to a lot of teams.

How bout Chris Tillman for a  5th starter next year?

It took exactly four posts to stop talking about Edwin Jackson.   :lmao:

He has good stuff.  When he's good, you wonder how it is he's had times in his career he was so bad.  Perhaps with the right pitching coach and in the right comfort zone he can be a solid back-end starter?  I've certainly been pleasantly surprised with how he's performed.

It's almost as if he's been on the DL for 4 1/2 years.  Glad to see that he has slid right back into his old slot in the rotation.
For a guy who's played for 12 teams (guessing there) it seems like he favors playing for the Nats.

There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

Still not a believer, there's a reason he keeps getting cut.  Glad he's done so well, have no expectation that will continue though.

Like Howie Kendrick, if he continues playing this well some team other than the Nats will give him a big payday this winter. The Nats should not be that team.

I think comfort, familiarity, and good coaching matter. Jackson was for the most part great here in 2012 and clearly he is comfortable playing here and the Nats clubhouse seems to be very fitting for veteran guys. That and don't discount Mike Maddux who many consider to be the best pitching coach in baseball.

Baltimore just doesn't develop or coach Ps well, haven't in basically forever either. See Jake Arietta.

No reason to sign him before he hits the market.  If he's still available in Feburary, we can give him a conditional contract.  The offseason priority should be to get a legitimate 3-4 type starter through free agency or a trade, basically a repeat of the Fister deal.

Clearly the baseball gods are not moved by economic logic.  EJax makes what, 36 times less than Jordan Zimmermann?

Assuming he finishes relatively well, I'd be happy to give him a cheap 1 year deal.  But if he finishes reasonably well, with as hard as pitching is to find now, he'll get 2 years 10 mill somewhere.

I actually think not.  It's really two totally different conversations separated by five years of context.  But do I care?  No, do whatever makes you happy :P

No, I really do want your honest opinion before I do what I have already decided to do.

Do we know what his contract looks like?  Any chance we included a team option for next year when we signed him?

Wasn't he a minor league free agent?  Never heard of a club option for a minor league free agent.

He's made about $65MM in his career.  I'll not shed a tear for him...
