Players' Weekend nicknames released
« Topic Start: August 09, 2017, 02:29:00 PM »

Players will be allowed to pick nicknames to wear on their Jerseys Aug 25-27. Most are pretty unimaginative.  But I personally like:

Blue Eye
DoooDooo
El Lindo

Are they gonna go full slow-pitch softball and use the black pants, too?

Also, I think this is the first time the "Nationals" script has appeared on an official uniform. I'd like to see it more. Maybe not in this sort of thing, but I like that script.

Part of me doesn't like it, but part of me knows baseball can use a dose of "fun" and this gets people talking and makes kids take notice.  You can watch ESPN and they talk way more about an unemployed subpar QB than the Dodgers on an historic win pace.  Even when it's not NFL or NBA season, they take first billing over baseball during the thick of baseball season.  Maybe some nicknames on the uniforms at least grabs some headlines.

Forced artificial fun doesn't come off as anything other than fake

It's like giving the kid a tonka truck and putting him in a sandbox. It's totally forced and a little manipulated, but the kid can totally have genuine fun with it. I think the players can totally have legit fun with this, even if it's manufactured above their heads.

Yeah, seems pretty lame to me. A lot of the "nicknames" are just made up for this. But whatever. Not a big deal.

Some A's fans actually get PTBNL on their jerseys 'cause they know better than to get attached to any of their stars lol.

I’ll be honest, I’m tempted to get one myself. On a Nats Jersey. It’s pretty hilarious.

Front of the jersey should be Natinals.  I mean, the team should have a nickname too.

I like Ryan Raburn as "Bobby" - anyone else like DeNiro in "The Fan"?

If the players have fun with it, which it seems like they are, and the fans have fun with it...how is that artificial or fake?

They actually have an "E-Jax" jersey?

also, anyone else look at the Scherzer jersey and get a flashback to the Crystal Gayle song "Don't is make my brown eyes blue?" That should be his walk-up song.

All in fun. More stuff to sell for the Nats but those jersies are ugly as sin.
