Lopez getting the call up

Reynaldo Lopez will be called up to make his White Sox debut on Friday against the Royals.

Mike Pelfrey has been bumped to the bullpen to open a rotation spot for the 23-year-old top pitching prospect. Lopez, acquired from the Nationals in the offseason Adam Eaton trade, has registered a 2.70 ERA and 63/15 K/BB ratio over his last 46 2/3 innings at Triple-A Charlotte. White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said he'll be up for good.

Watching this game on MLB.tv right now. Lopez has 5 K's through 2 scoreless innings. Throwing a lot of pitches and walking people, though.

He's doing the opposite of pitching to contact. Only one batter has put it in play.

He's probably done after the 6th inning. Allowed 4 hits, 2 of them solo home runs to Mike Moustakas. He should probably walk Moustakas next time they face each other.

Not sure about that.  He had a great run of around 50 IP in AAA to earn the call up and his stuff looked great yesterday, with a lot of room for mechanical improvement as well (he has a tendency to hold on to the fastball too long and that's relatively easy to coach up).  Outside of Moustakas, no one really did any serious damage to him and it took him 102 pitches to get through 6 fine innings.  It's one start but the early returns look good and sustainable.

So trade was Lopez for Eaton?

Still think Giolito can put it all together by age 25 and it's too early in Dunning's career to say anything about him.  Lopez has certainly been the best piece we gave up so far though.
