Cleared waivers. Send a prospect their way and go get him.

.260, 29 HR, 75 RBI

PUT Harper in Center until Taylor comes back.

1- Turner SS
2- Harper RF
3- Murphy 2B
4- Zimmerman 1B
5- Bruce LF
6- Rendon 3B
7- Taylor CF
8- Weiters C

with Lind, Werth, Difo and Kendrick on the bench.

Good luck league. That might be the best lineup ever assembled.

Imagine what the late 1920's/early 1930's yankees, 1927 A's, 1976 reds, 1977 red sox, 1982 brewers and the 1995 indians (among a few others) would say about this lineup being considered the best ever assembled.

Isn't he a huge defensive liability?

Werth was hitting .262 with an OPS of .815 before he was injured. Bruce is batting .260 with an OPS of .852. I don't think that difference is enough to warrant spending a prospect and money and have who knows what effect on clubhouse dynamics.

I can think of several other lineups as well.   I liked the '71 Pirates, the A's of the early '70s and some of the Dodger/Yankee teams of the late 70s.

yeah the birds of around 1970 were lethal as well. But yeah the 1971 bucs plus the A's of the early 70's you mentioned. And I don't know how I omitted the late 70's mobs of the dodgers and the yankees. The phillies had a really strong lineup during that time too but kept running into the dodgers in the playoffs.

I think it was the 1927 A's that had Eddie Collins coming off the bench.

If the Nationals wanted him, they could have claimed him off waivers. They did not do so.
 :mitt:
If a player is waived, any team may claim him. If more than one team claims the player from waivers, the team with the weakest record in the player's league gets preference. If no team in the player's league claims him, the claiming team with the weakest record in the other league gets preference. In the first month of the season, preference is determined using the previous year's standings.

If a team claims a player off waivers and has a viable claim as described above, his current team (the "waiving team") may choose one of the following options:

arrange a trade with the claiming team for that player within two business days of the claim; or
rescind the request and keep the player on its major league roster, effectively canceling the waiver; or
do nothing and allow the claiming team to assume the player's existing contract, pay the waiving team a waiver fee, and place the player on its active major league roster.

The Nats lineup of April 28th, 2017 is better than that one.

So Werth would have 29 homers and 75 RBI by now? Am I missing something?

I wouldn't be opposed to extra firepower, especially with our pitching. If he ends up on the dodgers or cubs you all will be spamming LAC posts..

At this point Werth is done. Are you ready to rely on him in October after he has missed basically the whole year?

I guess if you think Kendrick and Taylor can hit in the postseason as starters then don't get him. I'm more than a little wary.

Werth gets on base more than Bruce. Bruce has a wRC+ of 122, Werth’s is 114.  So Bruce is mariginally better at creating runs. Bruce is making 13 million dollars this year. Why spend limited resources on a player that’s a minor upgrade than what you have currently at creating runs and is a downgrade at what you actually need which is someone who gets on base that you can put in the #2 spot?

Kendrick has proven he can hit in the postseason.  And Bruce can’t play CF. He is a minus defender in RF.

And even if Werth doesn’t come back, platoon Lind and Kendrick. Lind actually has outperformed Bruce. OPS of .878 and wRC+ of 123.

Slate....you want in or not?

The lineup we had on opening day will not be available for the playoffs. If this is our all in year...this seems like a way to improve the team.

That being said....I've never liked Jay Bruce.

It doesn't improve the team. If we're not starting Werth, we have two better hitters to play LF.

I was mocking the statement that it would be one of the best lineups assembled.

Think getting Kendrick negated this possibility.
