I'm stayin' up 'streak. You're only an hour ahead of me. It's like that St Louis series. 1am start indeed. Damned central timers.

The game. My wife might murder me if I actually try to watch the game in the hotel on vacation.

Tell her you're not feelin' well and take the electronics to the can.

England. Sunny Stratford-upon-Avon... it's finally starting to get a little dim here now.

That would involve going to Scotland though. Once is enough in any mans life time. Your near namesake Elvis Presley only went there the once too, so I'm in excellent company.

I actually found our trip to the West Coast easier for some reason. 3am start times mean by the time the game finishes it's time to get the kettle on for a brew anyway! I'm a bit of an insomniac but I found it easier to fall asleep knowing there was a Nats game to keep me occupied if I woke up stupidly early accidentally (I had the alarm set anyway).

Midnight is harder as there is no way I will sleep before hand and there is every chance I will fail to sleep afterwards.

I've been there twice.  I suppose the midges probably did kill me the first time, so it makes sense that I'm still only at one per life.

Most importantly, in the winter? Glasgow in the winter is like a glimpse of what nuclear winter would look like, including the translucent, crazed, mangy inhabitants, unexplained constant 30 mph wind, and an inexhaustible desire to lose oneself in alcohol lest one notice the surroundings.

Oh, guess I've been to Scotland 3 times.  I just wanted to forget that one.

My angle of dissuasion is winter.    I keep tellin' her how early it gets dark and the pub rules, etc.  (she doesn't drink).    I'd really like to visit but I don't think I'd want to be there all year 'round   ....   especially in the winter.     I think Edinburgh is as urban as I'd wanna get in Scotland.    I was lookin' at itineraries (guided and unguided) and can only imagine the hordes that over take Scotland in the summer.

It's a pretty picturesque place when you're away from the towns, but then so is a lot of Europe and the US for that matter. Edinburgh is not too bad for tourists (remembering where I live!) but it is shockingly awful when The Fringe is on. Vast quantities of hugely privileged people in their 20s (and older, but still act like their in their 20s) appear and haw-haw their way around. There are only a few bearable days all year as far as the weather goes too - Elvir has is mostly right. 10 days max in the winter where it is bright and crisp and still and 10 days in the summer where it is sunny and warm without midges being absolutely everywhere.

She would need to drink if she lived in Scotland. It's not like Ireland where drinking is the law, it's more that she will not survive without a few units to get through the day.  :glug:
