Well, no shutdown inning.

Was there ever any doubt?

It's a mistake to send Ross out again at 90 + pitches, and it's a mistake to go to the bullpen in the 6th inning.

FP seems like he was infatuated with his hitting stats when he played. Constantly talking about "once you get a hit the pressure is off you" and "the difference between 0-3 vs. 1-4 is huge," etc.

I think I might agree with him. Nobody wants to be 0-fer the game. I imagine if it gets to 0-3 or 0-4, some players might get self conscious about it.

He was probably more conscious about it because he was not a regular starter and felt he had to produce or sit.

I've noticed the same thing. Odd thing. I'm watching the Mets broadcast...Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling don't talk that way. Just now, Gary Cohen and Darling were telling stories about "the last time someone hit for the cycle on July 4th". That was Hernandez, but the story turned to the end of that game...19 inning game in Atlanta, ended at 4am. Darling remembers that Davey Johnson was throw out of the game about the 17th inning, and, of course, hung around until the end..."

The Mets bullpen is almost as bad as the Nats'. No quite, but darn near.

I think he says it was in the minors. The guy who really knows hitting is Ray Knight, who was a hitting coach for the Reds before he was a manager, I think.
