I'm sure there were plenty of light tanks like those in the states for training purposes during the big one.

I guess it seems tacky to me to do that during the war.       Plus, per Patton, wouldn't those guys be "shovelin' crap in Louisiana"?

They needed to prepare crews for the parade down the Kurfürstendamm

The source of a posting of that picture links to National Geographic, which says it was taken in 1947 "U.S. military tanks parade near the Capitol Building in Washington DC, 1947. Photograph by Volkmar K. Wentzel, National Geographic". See:

(Note the streetcar tracks. Lots of fun navigating over those things.)

Not so bad on tracked vehicles.

What year is that photo  ...   '46?     The vehicles almost look Korea era.

Google image search shows a caption that says 1947. But likely too late. Whole Reddit discussion that surmises it is during  WWII

There used to be an annual bike race on the Ellipse ("National Capital Open") where you hit a couple of old tracks.  That got really interesting on a 130 psi half inch racing tire.

edit: I might be conflating two courses.  There was one downtown that had tracks, might not have been the NCO though.

It's probably the "deep state" tanks.     :couch:

Actually (after a bit more research) those tanks are M2A4's, the predecessor to the Stuart and were basically obsolete by WWII so it would make sense for them to be at home.

The trolly tracks were still on M Street in Georgetown well into the '80s and so were the cobblestones. It was tough sledding in a car much less a bike, I bet.

I'm not sure why Harper doesn't steal bases anymore.

I haven't been on O ST in years.    I may have to check it out.

Yes, they are still on some side streets as are the cobblestones. But let's just say that taking them off them the main drag that is M St. in G'town was a tad late in coming.
