Pet Peeve - Every time the Nats lose...
« Topic Start: July 01, 2017, 12:58:45 PM »
... the headline on the Nats MLB website is invariably something like "next pitcher looking to deal in next game" or "position player matches insignificant record".  Just own the hell up already.  "Nats lose in blowout" or "Bullpen blows close game".  It's gotten predictable enough that if the first headline isn't "Nats win" then I know they lost :smh:

They should hire me to write the headlines, they'd have a slightly less positive spin.

I've noticed the same thing in my Disgracebook feed.  They trot out some esoteric statistic too.  If I see something like, "Ryan Zimmerman hit his 45th career home run while wearing his lucky Spiderman suspenders underneath his uniform," then (as you mentioned) you can bet on a Nats loss.

The lead for tomorrow is that the Nats preserved the streak of not being shutout.

My FIL is a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, now living in DC in the summer.  He watched the game on Friday night and was surprised how the Nats broadcasters (FP, Johnny, Ray Knight) kept mentioning how "you can understand why the Nats would be flat tonight after losing Trea Turner......"  I guess we are a soft organization from top to bottom.  Sack up.

Standard Post headline, 1954 through 1958: "Sievers Homers Again", and, in the sub-head, "Nats Lose to Cleveland".

Through 1959 actually.

Although in '59 Sievers was in part superseded by Killebrew.

Right. That's why I didn't include '59. Roy was hurt, but Killebrew hit 42 homers, and Lemon and Allison each hit more than 30. I remember the team being pretty good, but then there was that 19 game losing streak.
