Still striking out too much, but the power has shown up for sure. toolsy left hitting outfielder that could be a nice mid level trade piece in July. A good guy to keep an eye on.

Made Baseball America's Hot Sheet as the Helium Watch item.

Daniel Johnson, OF, Nationals (21)
Low Class A Hagerstown

The Nationals drafted Johnson in the fifth round from New Mexico State last year after he led the Western Athletic Conference in batting (.382), slugging (.630), home runs (12), total bases (155) and stolen bases (29). He has quietly continued that level of all-around excellence in his first full season, hitting .313/.378/.576 with 16 homers, 42 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 70 games at Hagerstown. He matches that production with 80-grade arm strength and the athleticism to remain in center field. Johnson’s main question entering the year was how refined his baseball skills were, and he is showing they are just fine.

I'm glad to see the power show up. He's been lauded as having impressive raw tools, including power. Even mlb.com says he has a feel for barreling up the ball as has impressive natural power. Then they grade him a 45 on power.

So far looks like a big time steal in the 5th round. My concern so fat would be base stealing. Needs work there. He's got great wheels but has been caught more than he's stolen(8-17). He absolutely needs to improve his reads and jumps is my guess. He will turn 22 in 2 weeks and is just in low A, but he looks like a player with exciting potential. I know there's always the desire to rush guys, but I would have no problem if he was in Hagerstown for the rest of the year. Let that confidence built carry into the off season.

Since being called up to Potomac he is hitting .378 with 3 HR 8 RBI and 8k in 45 AB.

Becoming a real prospect to go along with Soto and Robles.

Just turned 22.

At Harrisburg this year.  So far, .286 / .354 / .408, with 16 steals in 52 games (3 CS).  K rate is up to 21.8%.  The power he flashed at Hagerstown is gone (1 HR).

Got some prospect buzz over the offseason.  Ranked 9th in the system by Eric Longerhan at FG, with a 40 future value (same as Blake Perkins at 7 and Kelvin Gutierrez at 10, who were 2 of the 3 pieces in the Herrera deal).

Johnson had a 20/20 year split between Low- and High-A, then went to the Fall League and was relatively unimpressive when lined up against a higher concentration of talent. Johnson has big-league ability. He can really run, he has a cannon, and there’s untapped potential in his swing (there’s some length right now, he’s still tinkering with his footwork), so if he continues to make adjustments, he has everyday potential. He has poor defensive instincts and the swing needs work if Johnson’s going to get to his raw power, but he was a raw college prosopect with loud tools who now has a season of in-game success under his belt. He’s trending up and has a sexy profile, but it’s not time to go crazy, yet.

Looks like a potential top of the order guy: .286 / .354 / .408 with 16 steals  in 19 tries this year at Harrisburg though he's been on the DL since 6/05
