I believe Thomas is a free agent after this year and Lebron may leave also. So yes they are all in. If those guys leave then they have a top pick probably from Brooklyn to start over.

Is Ainge in trouble?

It's official. Cleveland gets Thomas, Crowder, some other guy and Brooklyn's first pick next year. Seems like a good deal for Cleveland. They need defense (Crowder) and Thomas can replace Kyrie's scoring. Boston going the opposite way having traded their best two defensive players in trades.
Zizic is not a nothing.  He's 6'11" 240 and one of the top forwards in Europe.  OTOH, Thomas's hip is not good.  Crowder was a bit redundant.

I don't know anything about Zizic. Jan Vesley was also a top forward in Europe. They seem to have upgraded the offense in a major way with Heyward and the young first draft picks. Think their weakness is that Horford cannot really play center. Too slow and can't defend the rim. Should be a fun race in the East to see who loses to GS.

I don't think so. He still has some other draft picks acquired from other teams. Heyward is very good. And the rookie they have from Duke looks good also.

Thomas also has a bad hip, so he may not even be in line for a max. I think Boston wins this one- the best case for the nets pick is probably Kryie

I can only hope (and that Ted would chuck Ernie aside to get the chance to even have an interview with Ainge)

Lebron reigned in Kyrie. Once he gets to Boston he will not be passing the ball to chumps like Heyward and Horford. And certainly not the rookie. Seriously they look like they will be last year's Cavs. Great offense and no defense.

They have one of the best coaches in the game, I'm betting they'll be fine

They still have an enormous amount of picks over the next few years.  The Lakers if it is 2 - 5, plus their own for 2018, then a bunch of contingent picks depending on lottery status for 2019 and 2020.

They do seem to lack a physical presence,  but Marcus Morris should help.  They have the point guard in Kyrie, back ups in Smart and Rozier, and a bunch of wing players (Heyward, Brown, Tatum).  Crowder figured to have his time limited a bit. This sort of unpacks the wings.

I can't vouch for this but I read somewhere that Marcus Morris played more of the three position than four last year. With all those wing players he will undoubtedly play the four. He seems to be like his twin (which makes sense) and not much of a rebounder. Probably they will play two of threes at one time and lots of small ball. Which seems to be the way everyone is going.

Stevens's philosophy is to go with a point guard, a center, and 3 outside players.

Will be interesting to see how he uses Kyrie. He really hasn't played point guard for the past three years. Except when Lebron is on the bench.   Will also be interesting to watch how IT deals with Lebron having the ball most of the time.

I'm guessing that IT, like all players who believe in a round earth, will appreciate all the wide open looks he's going to get because of Lebron's gravitational pull.

If the Cleveland Boston trade falls apart, I wonder how awkward that will be

what, are they saying Isaiah isn't passing his physical?  I kind of wondered about that when the trade was announced.

i figured Cleveland knew going into it, but it looks like they're pulling an angelos. They'll still be able to move kyrie, and Boston gets left with a disgruntled star

actually, they may just want it as leverage to get another pick out of the Celts.  They still have picks out the wazoo, and supposedly the big get in the deal for Cleveland was the unprotected likely lottery pick based originally from Brooklyn.

Speaking of that pick, do you suppose the Celts would retire paul Pierce's number just because of the compensation they got when they traded him?

He probably did as much for them by leaving as playing there. Bill Simmons (Boston homer, but still my favorite basketball podcast), is speculating that Brooklyn may not suck as bad as people are thinking- they have no incentive to tank, plenty of other teams have rosters just as bad and incentive to tank

Not clear why the trade being in jeopardy has anything to do with Kyrie being disgruntled?  He wants to be on a new team and undoubtedly  doesn't care what Cleveland gets.  If

Boston adding a 2020 2nd round pick to the deal, it looks to be done now.

I like how adding a guy who probably wont even make their roster three years from now is enough to allay Cleveland's fears

It's another chip they can use in a subsequent trade...
