He ran towards 2B just in case and once Inciarte threw his hand s up he took off.

Rare good baserunning by a Nat. But I would not have expected less from Murphy. He's a real ball player.

ruled no error on the play so that nets Goodwin an RBI

Wouldn't he get the RBI even with an error? Also, I've never seen a missed diving catch scored an error. Never.

True, it would be a non-base-hit RBI.

I've never seen so many missed diving catches in one game, let alone one inning...

I've seen it in Little League.  Speaking of which, anyone see that score from the other day?  Something like 31-3.  Made me feel sorry for the losers.  I'm sure one of their pitchers will make it to the Nats' pen in about 10 years.

This is true but the dive is what caused the ball to roll away and allow the run to score.

Our battery has a real problem with the signals. That's at least 4 times, recently, that Weiters has been crossed up.

Let's tack some on for the howitzers (I wish) coming out of the bullpen. They usually need it.

Turns out I was wrong.

"If a run is scored because of a fielder's error, on a wild pitch, a passed ball, a balk or on a steal of home base, the hitter concerned is not credited with a RBI. This may mean that a run is scored but no RBI credited."

I've watched a lot of baseball in my life and didn't know this. Thanks, Spidernat.

A player can actually be credited with an RBI on a play where said player reaches base on an error but the play today, had it been ruled an error, would not have fallen under that category.

And BTW, I didn't have a problem with the scoring. Goodwin got some home cooking to pad his stats and at the same time Markakis didn't get penalized for his effort.

I was quite impressed!  yeah, I obviously wondered if I got the count wrong as I was watching that, thinking there were two outs, and that, at least, we'd get one run from the play.  but yeah, that was just...great...seeing him just moving like that, and obviously just being a good ball player..

Oh that's weird.  So you can have a "run batted in" if you get a base on balls, but not if you actually bat the ball to the outfield and reach on a error?

We'll never catch them now.
