Espinosa's batting average
« Topic Start: June 02, 2017, 04:24:57 PM »
There's a discussion in another thread about Espinosa's batting average.    As of today (June 2), he is batting .151.    To reach the Mendoza line (.200), he'll have to go 17 for his next 48 at bats (.350 per spider).      Will he make it by July 1, 2017?

I have no faith in him to even sniff Mendoza by July 1.     In fact, he'll very likely have more SOs than hits between now and July 1.

I'm surprised it's big enough to be measurable

Somehow, Captain Golden Sombrero is not the worst hitter in baseball this year. Both Alcides Escobar and Alex Gordon are both worse, probably due to Espi's 4 homers and 1 stolen base.

They are batting .186 and .175 respectively though...

...and don't forget...someone issued Danny an intentional walk...

Truthfully, by wRC+, Espinosa is tied with Gordon. Escobar has an OBP of .212 and slugging .236, which by my math is HOT DUMPSTER FIRE GARBAGE.

Not that Espinosa is much better at .510 OPS, but hey, at least he is the Angels' problem!  :mg:

He K'd 3 times last night and then in the 9th inning hit a 2 run bomb in an 11-5 loss to boost his OPS to .528

I will always root for Espinosa. Hopefully he catches fire before it's too late.

I can't stand him.  He should've given up trying to hit from the left side of the plate, but he was too damned stubborn.  He should've worked at hitting right-handed against righties during an offseason, maybe while playing winter ball.  He basically chose to keep sucking.

He tried batting righty only in ST once and he was just as bad hitting right handed pitching right handed, if not worse. Let's face it, he is a strikeout machine with an occasional long ball thrown in.
