Round 15: Bryce Montes de Oca - Missouri, RHP
With his huge frame and fastball to match, Montes de Oca was one of the most imposing high school pitchers in the 2014 Draft. He also was raw and coming off Tommy John surgery the year before, so he wound up sliding to the 14th round and attending Missouri. He worked just eight innings in 2015 and faced just one batter before requiring nerve transposition surgery in 2016, but he's back lighting up radar guns and climbing Draft boards this spring. Montes de Oca's fastball has an overpowering combination of velocity and life. He operates at 92-96 mph as a starter, tickles 100 in shorter stints and has so much heavy sink that makes it nearly impossible to lift his heater. As he has gotten more work this spring than in the previous four years combined, his curveball has improved and shows signs of becoming a plus pitch. Whether Montes de Oca can make it as a starter remains to be seen. His changeup remains in its rudimentary stages, and he still has little history of finding the strike zone or staying healthy. Scouts love his makeup and see closer potential if he winds up in the bullpen.
Sounds like this year's version of Koda Glover.
Round 22: Nelson Galindez, Haines City HS, LHP16/22Committed to a Community college, so I'd imagine he's signable. Big frame. 6' 3", 225.
Round 20: Jake Cousins, Pennsylvania RHP
This is actually Kirk's cousin. Funny.
Cousins' cousin?
Round 27: Darren Baker - Jesuit HS, SSInnnnnnteresting pick
Surely he will go to Cal?
