if we don't bring back Dusty, i'd be fine with Speier.
I've said a few times I'm fine with this if we have a good season and don't flame out in NLDS.

I like Dusty. I'd have no problem bringing him back. The players love playing for him and he has a great feel for managing a roster over the course of 162 games as far as playing bench guys and that sort of thing. He has his playoff struggles but hell we saw a World Series two years ago managed by Ned Yost and Terry Collins and neither of them are baseball savants.

This is a smart take.

Dusty wants to return but no offer from the Nats yet:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationals/dusty-baker-wants-to-manage-next-season-the-nats-havent-offered-him-an-extension/2017/06/08/f76afba6-4c61-11e7-9669-250d0b15f83b_story.html?

...and he won't be back unless we get past the first round...which is not entirely his fault if we don't...

No NLCS appearance at least=No contract. The NL East is an omnishambles for various reasons so the post season is a given (if he fails that he's gone anyway) he should be able manage his squad to keep the players fit, effectively throwing the game (on a Ross start) as not every win is likely to count giving him every single chance of getting through the first round.

As for a replacement. No idea.

“When you’re this close to winning, you have to make the one move that your team really needs,” said a key member of the Nats, who wished to remain anonymous. “Right now, the Lerners are the problem. They won’t spend, even though it’s not much, compared to how close we are. [General Manager] Mike Rizzo and Dusty aren’t the problem [with the bullpen]. The owners just don’t get it.”

“The Lerners wouldn’t give God a three-year contract.”

Actually a great article...I'm surprised he went after the Learners...but consider that Walter Alston worked with 23 consecutive one-year contracts, and got the Dodgers to 7 World Series, winning 4 of them...

I get that the LAC...but Rusty needs a playoff series win before even I want to see him back.  Even the Big Intern got them to the playoffs...and was named Manager of the Year.

This is another World Series or Bust year as far as I'm concerned...this team is as good as there is in the NL, even without a top bullpen...

I want to keep Dusty. I don't think its fair to judge it purely off playoff results when a best of 5 can be incredibly random.

Better than the NFL playoffs (a few 1-game series)

All of us who would like to see Dusty come back should write a letter to the editor of the Post - maybe mass response would get the owners attention
