I didn't recall Pivetta being known as an especially hard thrower when he was with the Nats. This article seems to back that up. Seems to have gone from a fastball in the low 90s to throwing 96-97. The anti-Giolito.

If they get that out they pitch Rendon differently and maybe no outs. We have all seen worse innings from the Nats.
