Your umpires suck.

so it has to be intentional to be interference?
Per the rule book, it's obstruction

he went because any real ump would award him the base.  but we have the Angel.

He probably would have been out even if not interfered with. Trusting your old man legs and the umps to rule things in your favor is foolish.

Looks like the ump said the Met shortstop was going for the ball, thus no interference

:wtf:

The act of a fielder who, while not in possession of the ball and not in the act of fielding the ball, impedes the progress of any runner.

Comment: If a fielder is about to receive a thrown ball and if the ball is in flight directly toward and near enough to the fielder so he must occupy his position to receive the ball he may be considered "in the act of fielding a ball." It is entirely up to the judgment of the umpire as to whether a fielder is in the act of fielding a ball. After a fielder has made an attempt to field a ball and missed, he can no longer be in the "act of fielding" the ball. For example: an infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes him and he continues to lie on the ground and delays the progress of the runner, he very likely has obstructed the runner.

The comment to Rule 7.09(j) adds that

obstruction by a fielder attempting to field a ball should be called only in very flagrant and violent cases because the rules give him the right of way, but of course such right of way is not a license to, for example, intentionally trip a runner even though fielding the ball.[1]

There is no need to determine intent.

I come into this series thinking "now is the time to step on the Mets throat." Now with syndegaard pitching tomorrow, I am concerned about a sweep and the Eaton is lost for the year. Worst. Series. Ever.

It's early in the season, but we just opened the door to the Mets in every way imaginable. Book it Danos, now they rally and start winning a bunch of games. In a month Cespedes comes back and the best pitching staff ever assembled blows us away in September. Everyone will look back on this series as the beginning of the end for the Nats.

As if the onslaught of homers wasn't enough, now Zim's legging out infield hits?

Harper has to approve it since he is not subject to any rules on the team.

Funny how the worm turns.  From yesterday's NYT:

"April has become an unending run of setbacks for the Mets, who find themselves in last place in the National League East, seven and a half games behind a Washington Nationals club that looks more intimidating by the day."
