I do think we had good infield defense when Espinosa was at short, and we've had bad infield defense when he wasn't playing.

I said last year that I think his defense covered up for Murphy's lack of defense.  I don't know if it was positioning or pressure, or whatever, but we've definitely sacrificed infield defense this year for offense.

It would have probably worked out well to play Trea at 3rd, kept Espinosa and traded Rendon for a closer.  Espinosa works in the 8 hole as a + defender in  a lot of ways.
